Terrence McGowan Announces Bid for U.S. Congress
Former Navy SEAL has strong record of public service.
HOWELL, April 12, 2012 – Former U.S. Navy SEAL Terrence McGowan announces his campaign for the United States Congress from New Jersey’s 4th Congressional District. For the past three decades, the seat has been held by the former Director of the New Jersey Right to Life Committee, Chris Smith.
“Washington is broken,” said McGowan, a Republican. “It’s bloated, intrusive and a huge impediment to the American entrepreneurial spirit. We need fresh ideas and new perspectives that reflect the issues that are most important to all Americans, particularly those of us here in the 4th District.”
“Chris Smith has focused on international issues in Africa and China which are important issues, but our interests here in New Jersey are not being represented,” said McGowan. “New Jersey needs jobs. We need fair and comprehensive tax reform that doesn’t penalize the hard work of middle class Americans. We need a smaller, more efficient and more responsive government that represents everyone not just one special interest group.”
McGowan has a strong history of commitment to public service. In addition to his record as a U.S. Navy SEAL, McGowan has served as a Police Officer and Firefighter here in New Jersey and is a civilian Iraqi War Veteran. “Many in my family have served and as such, I have always felt a deep sense of personal responsibility for my neighbors and my country. Apathy is the curse of free men everywhere. I’m looking forward to being a strong conservative voice in Washington that is willing to take on the tough issues.”
Mr. McGowan lives in Howell with his wife and their two children.
