Brick Man Who Died in Point Boro Car Accident Identified
William Scott Steiner Jr. perished in Sunday night crash
William Scott Steiner Jr., 75, is the Brick man who died when his car crashed in Point Borough on Sunday night, said Borough Police Chief Larry Williams.
Steiner had crashed his car into a traffic light and utility pole at the corner of Bridge and Bay avenues at about 9:35 p.m. Sunday, Williams had said.
No other car was involved in the accident, he said.
The victim had been pronounced dead at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, where he was transported by the Point Boro First Aid Squad, Williams said.
"The victim, who was alone at the time of the accident, struck the control box for the traffic light as well as a utility pole," Williams said.
The accident is being investigated by Police Officer Brad McNally and Detective Michelle Hill.
According to an obituary on legacy.com, Steiner had a long, distinguished career in education, including teaching in Rahway and Lakewood before becoming an administrator in the Berkeley public school district.
The obit states: "He obtained his first teaching job at Rahway Junior High school, dedicating his time not only to his students but also to his co-workers. He served as the President of the Rahway Education Association and was recognized for Educational Leadership by the Union County Educational Association, the first hint of his talent in leadership.
"While teaching, he attended Seton Hall University to become a certified administrator. Scott earned his first administrative position after five years of teaching in the Lakewood School district at Clifton Ave Middle School and Spruce Street School.
"Scott then became a principal in the Berkeley Township School system, where he worked from 1973 until his retirement in 1996. He shared his sense of humor, musical talents, and dedication to learning with his students, parents, and staff in Clara B. Worth and Bayville Schools, garnering the love and respect of all.
"After a rewarding 33 year career in education, Scott spent his final 16 years enjoying boating, swimming, and traveling to his favorite 'home away from home' Sanibel Island, Florida. The most important aspect of Scott's life was his family."

You have no right to say a 75 year old should not be driving at night...it was 9:30....not 3am. Someone died here...and people feel the need to make know-it-all comments on here. How about just feeling sorry for the victim.and family and leave it at that.
