Dive Teams and Police Search a Point Beach Lake, But Find Nothing

Two dive teams, first aid squads, local and state police search Lake of the Lillies for four hours after finding shoes on water's edge

A man's socks, shoes and belt were found on the edge of Lake of the Lillies, prompting dive teams, first aid squads, fire departments and police to do ground and air searches of the area on Sunday morning, but nothing was found, according to police and first aid authorities.

Police said there has been no local missing persons report and do not have more information about why someone may have left their personal items on the water's edge.

A man's belt, socks and size 15 black work boots had been found on the edge of the lake by a passerby, who reported that to Point Beach police.

That prompted various emergency agencies and local and state police to search the newly-dredged lake and the surrounding area of Point Beach.

At 8:30 a.m. Sunday, members of the dive team from the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad, serving Point Beach, Bay Head and Mantoloking, were dispatched to the lake.

Point Beach Fire and Point Borough Fire and First Aid Squad Dive team responded to assist in the search. Point Beach police searched the area around the lake on foot as divers searched the water.

A State Police helicopter did an air search.

The four-hour search done by 50 to 60 emergency workers, many of whom were volunteers working on New Year's Day.

Two Zodiac boats, a paddle board and kayak did a surface search as seven divers did search patterns by walking back and forth attached to a line supervised by Chief Diver Chet Nesley of the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad.

A four hour search by 50-60 workers? I hope they had a bit more evidence that someone was missing other than a pair of empty boots and socks. Hope I don't have to pay that overtime bill. Someone wearing size 15 boots could probably WADE across Pond of the Lillies ...

If it was a family member of yours would it matter how many VOLUNTEERS were out there searching?

I agree with Scott. Plus, there's no overtime involved. The majority of the people out there were VOLUNTEERS. Any paid personnel were already on duty and overtime pay is not a factor for anyone there.
