FEMA Officials Coming to Point Beach Feb. 6

The original date was Jan. 29, but FEMA postponed that

FEMA officials are going to meet with Point Beach officials and residents from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 6 at Borough Hall on New Jersey Avenue.

All are welcome to attend.

It's expected that FEMA officials will explain the new advisory flood maps and what they mean for residents trying to figure out if they should raise their flooded houses, by how much, what kind of flood insurance rates they will be paying and a myriad of other questions that are bogging down residents in red tape and confusion.

"They've assured me they will have accurate, concise answers," said Borough Business Administrator Christine Riehl at Tuesday night's council meeting.

FEMA is hoping to have the Small Business Administration (SBA) at the meeting. SBA has loans available for residents, property owners and business owners flooded by Sandy.

At the Tuesday meeting, Riehl said the meeting would be Jan. 29. However, on Wednesday, Riehl emailed council members and Patch notifying them that FEMA had just advised her that they cannot arrange for their officials to be at Point Beach next week, so they changed the date to Feb. 6.

Property owners who want to see where their property is on FEMA's Advisory Base Flood Elevations Map can click here on the FEMA website.

They may be able to get them to come to point boro.....but remember, the boro is against the new flood maps. Also, a tidbit from the "paints a bleak picture" story, ICC money, the money available to help raise a dwelling, if over 50% damaged, is only available to towns that agree and accept the new advisory maps. Has anyone in Pt. boro applied or qualify for these funds ?

Yeah they need to have this somewhere else...Manasquan attempted this at the Elks Lodge and that wasn't big enough by half... Additionally it'd be nice to actually have realistic solutions near the beach areas - with so many needing to raise their homes up we have heard the town will allow for 20ft to 22ft...ok thats just fantastic, sardine cans on top of pilings - we are no where near ready for what is coming.

They should have it in the auditorium at Antrim Elementary. Lots of seats there.
