Free Christmas Dinner on Sunday

Restaurants donate food for dinner at the Elks Lodge

Local restaurants are again joining forces to provide a free, hot dinner for those impacted by Sandy, or otherwise needy.

The Christmas dinner, which will be served at the Elks Lodge on Arnold Avenue in Point Pleasant from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, was arranged by Stephanie Salardino, who planned the free Thanksgiving dinner held at the Elks the night before Thanksgiving.

"The Thanksgiving dinner went very well and we had a great turnout so I decided to put a Christmas dinner together," said Salardino, a longtime Point Beach summer resident, whose family's house on Beacon Lane was heavily damaged by Sandy.

Participating restaurants are: 709 Point Beach; Hoffman's Ice Cream; Martell's Sea Breeze and Tiki Bar; Spano's; Surf Taco; The Beanery; The Spot Pizza and Grill; Frankie's Bar and Grill; Longboard Grill; Joe Leone's Italian Specialties and Seabreeze Deli and Catering.

For more information, see attached PDF or contact Salardino at (908) 420-8954.

There's also a free Christmas Day dinner from 12 pm till 2, supported by local restaurants like Joe Leone's and by St Gregory's Pantry, at the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church - as there has been for many years.

Do either of these events need volunteers?

Ms. Sousa, you can call Ms. Salardino at (908) 420-8954 and ask about the Sunday event. And you can call Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church 732-899-0587 and ask about their dinner on Christmas Day. I will be posting a separate story about the Presbyterian church and St. Paul's in Bay Head serving free dinners. I know St. Paul's could also use some volunteers for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day: St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 423 W Lake Ave, Bay Head, 732-892-5926. Thank you for offering to help and Happy Holidays.

Hi Sandra, Thank you for offering to volunteer. Luckily all of the volunteers from the Thanksgiving dinner are returning so I have more than enough help for this dinner. Thank you though :) Happy holidays

What's up with volunteering in town? I have been trying for years along with so many who has also tried.... We all have been unsuccessful. Is it that they only want certain individuals from their own town, so only to get credit for one reason or another. The town that shuts everyone out.
