Freeholder Wants Governor to Address JCP&L Issues
Freeholder Vicari's letter to Christie complains about utility company's service, asks for better Ocean County representation to BPU
June 18 letter as submitted from Ocean County Freeholder Joseph Vicari:
Dear Governor Christie:
With the arrival of the summer season, I remain concerned about the ability of Jersey Central Power & Light Co. to provide reliable service not only to our year round population, but also to thousands more seasonal guests and businesses.
I do not need to remind you of the problems our state, and specifically Ocean County faced last year in the wake of Hurricane Irene. More than 87,000 Ocean County businesses and residences lost power, many for more than a week. Our senior citizens suffered the most, and many businesses lost hundreds of thousands in lost revenue. As you recall, we spoke frequently about the problem last August when you phoned both my office and home.
Today, I remain unconvinced that JCP&L is prepared for another hurricane. I even question the utility’s ability to provide service through the high-demand months of July and August. It had been traditional for a power company representative to attend a meeting of the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders at the start of each tourist season to discuss how the utility planned to handle the peak summers months. However, JCP&L officials flatly refused to appear before our board this year.
As the Freeholder Liaison to the Ocean County Office of Senior Services, I also join with the AARP and question whether the company’s profits are too high. There is a legitimate concern within both the senior and general population of our county that JCP&L places too much emphasis on profit at the expense of maintaining a modern and reliable infrastructure.
I know you share many of these same concerns and I look forward to working with you to ensure that this utility lives up to its obligations and remains accountable to the people and ratepayers of the state of New Jersey. With all the secretaries sitting down in the Freeholder's offices in Toms River, could nobody be found to proof read the Freeholder's letter to the Governor? Scarier yet, maybe they did proof read it.

Perfect timing....this letter was written the day before thousands of jcp&l ocean county customers lose power due to a storm. Freeholder Vacation I concur with your now merited concerns.

JCP and L has long been a company only interested in pure profits. In my view they have a track record of high rates and poor service. Look at the rate increases over the years, and you will discover something that is really out of control.
I for one, admire Mr. Vicari for writing such a letter. In my view, it is especially powerful since it comes from a Republican, and they are the Political Party that most often sticks up for Big Business and the profits associated with them.
It is time for JCP and L to deliver better service, and decrease the profits.

Chris Chistie when he was running for Governor of New Jersey a few years ago:
#1-I will lower your property taxes
#2-I will not spend money that the State does not have.
As of right now:
#1-Property taxes are higher than they ever have been.
#2-He plans on giving property tax relief (or at first his plan was for a lower State Income Taxes) with a plan that will borrow money that the State simply does not have.
#3-He makes unrealistic predictions for dollars coming into the State Treasury, when every expert has stated his numbers are far off.
#4-He continues to use his "Veto Pen" to slash any form of additional taxes for the Millionaires of New Jersey. Are the Millionaires really his pals?
#4-He is more interested in his reputation on the National Scene than here in N.J. Could he want to get the PUB Nod for VP? Maybe. Could he want to be the next Attorney General of the U.S., if Mitt Romney wins the Potus Election of November 2012? For sure.
I refer to his approach as what is best known as "The Big Fib". His only interest is in protecting wealthy pals in Morris County.
