Matlosz Killer Indicted in Another Murder
Jahmell Crockam, sentenced to life in prison in the murder of Lakewood police officer Christopher Matlosz, has been indicted in the October 2010 killing of Justin Williams
Nearly two years after Justin Williams was killed and his body left on a Lakewood street, three men have been indicted in connection with his murder, including the man convicted for the killing of Lakewood police officer Christopher Matlosz.
Jahmell W. Crockham, 21, who was sentenced in February to life in prison after he was convicted of murdering Matlosz, was indicted Thursday by an Ocean County grand jury on one count of first-degree murder, and second-degree counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, in the shooting death of Williams.
In addition, Crockam and Calvin R. Presley of Jackson and Darius Jamal Johnson, 22, of Howell have been indicted on a count of conspiracy to hinder apprehension and tamper with physical evidence in the killing.
The indictment also notes a fourth unnamed person "whose identity is known to the grand jury, who is a named co-conspirator but not as a defendant herein" in relation to the conspiracy and tampering count.
The indictment cites "overt acts" by Johnson specifically as the basis for his indictment, alleging he and the unnamed co-conspirator drove the car in which Williams was killed from Jackson to Camden and finally Philadelphia, and then allegedly purchased lighter fluid that was used to set the car on fire.
Johnson also was indicted on a count of second-degree hindering apprehension, for allegedly preventing or obstructing, "by means of deception," detectives from the Lakewood police department and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office from an action that would have led to the discovery or apprehension of Crockam, the indictment states.
Johnson is being held in the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $2 million bail, no 10 percent option.
Bail information on Presley was not available at press time.
Crockam and Johnson were first charged in Williams' murder just days after Crockam was arrested in the murder of Matlosz, a Manchester resident who attended Howell High School, in January 2011.
At the time, Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said information about Williams' murder came about during the investigation into the killing of Matlosz. "Our investigation revealed that on or about Oct. 15, 2010, Justin Williams accompanied Jahmell Crockam and Darius Johnson, during which time Justin Williams was shot and killed," Ford said.

Ray, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family for your loss. YES, I have to agree with you, he is an animal. but the question is, who gives men like this the right to be God? hard labor???? Good and decent men do hard labor every day of their lives. how about sending them over seas to defuse bombs?

Ray, If anyone's comments are valid yours certainly are valid. I add my prayers for the loss of your brother. Since NJ doesn't have the death penalty life in prison was his sentence. Since this guy entered prison so young a life sentence means he'll die in prison (which I feel he deserves). With that said, his life nor the family of his victims will ever be the same because of his self actions. His path and that of others who choose to commit such horrible acts of cowardly behavior is something that I will never understand. However, I'm glad that we do have laws in place that when they commit such acts they are punished.

Police killers are heroes in jail. He will be treated by the other inmates as a celebrity. I agree with Karen's comments & Comfortably Numb who said that he deserves hard labor. Too bad NJ doesn't have the Death Penalty because then we wouldn't waste money on these murderous, heartless animals? I say do to him what he did to his innocent victims. He makes me sick!

You can thank Corzine and his bleeding heart liberals for doing away with the death penalty. He'll get 3 meals a day in an airconditioned / heated correctional facility, a gym to work out, library, movies, etc. Suffer in prision? It's the hard workers on the outside that are suffering. These animals have no respect for life. The electric chair would be perfect for him.

Oh, I understand now. When a murder or crime is committed you feel like the police should be able to immediately solve the crime; just like they do on CSI! HA, and you call me stupid and an idiot?

A stupid one since cops do not convict or sentence or grant parole. Liberal democrats are to blame. Now we all know you are glad this young man who worked and paid taxes is dead. You blame him yet if Crockett was at your front door or on your street you'd be on 911 in a heart beat.

What are we doing here in Brick to contain and control gangbangers like this animal? It use to be these gang members were afraid to come to Brick as they would be harassed by our PD not anymore apparently. Hopefully that will change.

Art Penrose - Jahmell W. Crockham is a walking pile of excrement -- and is a GANG MEMBER. EVERY "politician" like Jon Corslime that voted to repeal the death penalty is just as GUILTY for the murder Officer Matlosz as the mutant Crockham.
THE JUDGE responsible for letting Crockham walk free in his previous crime(s) is just as guilty as well.
Thanks to a justice system that would rather bust a kid for having a lemonade stand instead of locking up walking mutant excrement, we have situations like this.
If you want to solve the gang problem in NJ, use the Patriot Act to round up the mutants -- If there are illegal drugs and weapons involved, charge them as "enemy combatants" since most of the drugs come from terrorist sponsoring nations.
Use the Patriot Act to try, convict and execute these monsters and, like magic, your gang problem will disappear.

John Jay...... First off no one is an idiot for expressing their views. that's not nice. Everyone has their opinions. ( so no name calling be nice )
Second....... if enough of us gather together on behalf of this "gang stuff" and start getting congress involved, then and only then will be start getting this state shaking up and bring back the death penelty.
We sit back and watch the law makers do their knights of the round table thinking they are doing the best, when not asking the ppl for what they think. if we start making calls to the state, and getting things rocking and rolling, then ppl like this will think twice about killing.
Jails are way to soft. ( I have an ex husband ) anyway he was in jail for 3 months for DWI and guess what!!!!! he did nothing but played cards and shoot pool!!! But the state was more then happy to charge 1000's of $ for his crime tho!! OK not the same thing but the concept is there. STATE AND JAILS ARE TO SOFT!
Murder should be DEATH PERIOD
Then down the line...... the punishment for the crime...
just my views guys..... not black not white just views for all who cause the crime!!

What a tragedy. Look what this psychopath has done to you responders. You are calling each other names and sinking to Corzine bashing and anti-black rhetoric when in reality Crockham could care less whether there was a death penalty (which by the way was not being implemented before Corzine who is not my favorite either). BUT if you think it would help stop wasting your energy picking on each other and simple write to your assembly person or senator and say you believe that one cop may be alive if we had the death penalty. Stop beating up each other, we are the good guys who are searching for answers.

@ JohnJay Im not so sure about using Patriot Act but how about using the R.I.C.O. Act? It applies and unfortunately is rarely used outside of prosecuting Itailan mafia members. These are gangs are a structured organizations with a chain of command. The problem is you need to get the Federal agencies involved and they tend to be very political and currently most of their focus is on terror issues.

I heard they are dedicating a street in Englishtown for Officer Matlosz, I like what the others are writing -- contact your legislators and get the death penalty for people who kill our law officers. We should have them come to the street dedication.
Let's get motivated so that Officer Matlosz' memory is honored and maybe we can help save a life. Good ideas from none of yobusiness, p21342, KAREN A KINCAID and others.

Remember this..if our police are not safe, then no one is safe. If they will kill a cop at a drop of a hat without thinking twice then there is no line of defense for you. The rule of law will disolve and we will be come Mexico if this is allowed to continue.

You've said it best, none of us are safe if the police aren't. Politically the death penalty is relic of the past. As the rest of the world moves away from it so will we, and with the cost of trials, appeals, death row security, and God forbid an innocent executed financially its just cheaper to incarcerate someone for life. This gang problem isn't going to go away, it's culturally ingrained and glorified. I like the idea of prison ships for life sentences. Inmates after all appeals are dropped on it, food is dropped off once a month and literally the inmates run the asylum. No tax money spent on wardens, corrections officers, electricity, etc. No visitors, no running gangs from behind bars. And after your last breath you're shark food. Prison is not a deterrent, a prison ship would be terrifying. Talk about scared straight.

First off stop comparing the mentally sick to animals. Secondly you won't know what jail he will be senteneced to, most likely many. Killing a cop you really think someone isn't going to get revenge and seek him harm c'on really?
He's got three hots and a cot that it my friends.
(think of every single simple thing that many take forgranted like sun, green grass, blue sky, birds singing the simple things) 3 hots & a cot what he deserves nothing more.
I'm thankful that he's caught, in my world our loss, his killer still remains living & enjoying the simple things.

How is Jahmell Crockham "mentally sick"? He's a sociopath, but that doesn't buy you a Section 8 in our criminal justice system, nor should it. He is by all accounts remorseless and New Jersey is failing its citizens in allowing cop killers to live out their days on the taxpayers' dime.
Also - I've long advocated for leglislation that establishes membership in any criminal enterprise, such as a street gang, as a crime in itself. These "organizations" exist for no reason other than the break the law and simply belonging to one should be a crime.

Running prisons is big business.
Prison ships run by prisoners?
Never going to happen. The corporations which run this country would not allow it.
