More Power Restored in Point Beach, Police Say

But those with defective meter boxes have to get them replaced before power restored

JCP&L reports that there are only a small amount of Point Beach residents who are still awaiting power who can safely receive power, according to the Point Beach police department.

"They are expediting their efforts to complete those areas as soon as possible," says a prepared statement from police.

The Building Department is again notifying owners of properties where meters have been pulled or blocked by JCP&L because of flood water damage that they will have to hire a licensed electrician to repair or replace all flood-damaged equipment, the statement says.

"Permits will be required for certain work and inspections conducted by the Building Department prior to power being restored. Residents with any questions or concerns are requested to personally appear at the Building Department.

"The Building Department advises that all rentals or use of residential properties, whether gratuitous or for compensation, require a Certificate of Occupancy. Please contact the Building Department with any questions or concerns."

"Residents in need of manpower assistance in clearing debris from their residence are encouraged to go to the Durand Masonic Lodge, 911 Richmond Ave. (Route 35 South, next to Jersey Mike's), to make arrangements between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. They are also open for the distribution of clothing, non-perishable foods and household supplies. They are requesting no donations.

"So far over 600 volunteers there have assisted in restoration efforts in over 190 homes in Point Pleasant Beach, Point Pleasant Borough and Bay Head. They are also accepting reservations for the weekend."

Those interested in volunteering or those who need help can also call the lodge at (732) 245-7187 or email them at sandyreliefpointbeach@gmail.com

The statement adds:

"St. Gregory’s Pantry at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 804 Bay Ave., has requested no further donations other than monetary ones. Hot meals are still available between the hours of 2PM-6PM. They also have clothing, non-perishable foodstuffs and household and cleaning supplies available between 9AM-6PM.

Residents are encouraged to monitor 1630AM for updated information.

Residents who are interested in registering for the Reverse 911 Program are directed to the Point Pleasant Beach municipal website

Denise, Thank you for all your hard work and good information through out the past two + weeks. The Patch became my first stop for any updates. Your efforts are reminiscent of an simpler time when reading the town newspaper was mandatory to know what was going on. It has given a certain steadiness amid the uncertainty.

Did they say anything about gas? I had gas fine until last weekend, then I had power but no gas. If you call NJNG, they don't even put you on hold anymore, they just say call back later...

Bob, I'm sorry this took so long. Here is the response from NJNG:

We are sorry for any inconvenience to our customers and thank them for their patience. Given the increased call volume in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, we have staffed beyond our normal hours of operation to respond to customer inquiries. As call volume has been somewhat lighter in the evening, your readers might wish to consider reaching us then at 800-221-0051, or they can email their inquiries to us at customerservice@njng.com. We also recommend that customers follow us on Facebook.com/NewJerseyNaturalGas where we provide regular updates and respond to customer inquiries regarding our restoration process on LBI and other affected areas. And finally, our full Hurricane Sandy Resource Center is available on our web site, www.njng.com.

We truly appreciate everyone's patience as we work as quickly as possible to safely restore natural gas service for each of our customers.
