Ocean County Receives Disaster Declaration

Declaration made because of damage and flooding caused by Hurricane Irene

Gov. Chris Christie announced Sunday that Ocean County has been declared a major disaster area.

President Obama, who visited New Jersey Sunday, made the same declaration for Monmouth County on Saturday.

All 21 New Jersey counties are now eligible for relief from FEMA.

"Eligibility allows New Jerseyans to apply for different types of assistance, including temporary housing, repair, replacement or other needs such as Disaster Unemployment Assistance, and Small Business Administration disaster loans," according to a release from Christie.

Christie previously requested assistance for all 21 New Jersey counties, but damage assessments needed to be concluded before individual assistance could be granted to the remaining counties of Burlington, Hudson, Mercer, Ocean and Union, according to the governor's office.

Survivors of Hurricane Irene who suffered damage should apply for disaster assistance, according to a Christie release.

His office has suggested that those affected should register by phone at 800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 800-462-7585. Or anyone can register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.

Those affected can also apply through a web-enabled mobile device or smartphone by visiting .www.fema.gov and following the link to “apply online for federal assistance.”

this is going to be an excuse to increase rates. When the BPU grants them the increase the state makes out on taxes. This is to the advantage of the state to approve rate increases.SCAM

jcpl increase will be about 50%.This is because all these drivers were driving around wasting gas. They were not to do anything until the wind subsided. All about the union contract.

JCP&L did an excellent job. Would you want to be on top of a pole with winds like we had? Didn't think so. The rule is everyone goes home. So if you don't like it apply for their job and you do it

This is not the fault of the lineman. The company was not prepared for the storm that came, much less the storm that forecasted! The waiting until the winds died down is totally acceptable. It was not having adequate number of line man in place, was the problem. The company started to staff up after the storm.

In years past, they would have staged man out of the path of the storm. Then dispatched them to the hard hit areas and go to work after it was safe. This is a management issue and JCP&L is no longer capable to handle our needs. They are fast to take our money and let us wait till they get around to repairs. If they can make a buck by letting us just waiting a few extra days without power, seems to be their policy.

We were told at the last minute we were manadated to evacuate by the Mayor who based his judgement on a photo taken about a mile from our house. The county helicopters owned by the Mosquito commission were not used nor were boats. We live in the wetlands which flood often and to Irene we had a neighbor dump I can't begin to guesstimate how many gallons of water from a huge above ground pool into the area. We were told by the officer we had no choice even our house is on 10' pilings. Nothing happened to our house other than a damaged shutter. Who do we send the motel bill to for two nights of evacuation? The Governor said not to use the shelters unless absolutely financially necessary so we went to Pa and I do think we should be reimbursed inasmuch as I see so many folks piling up their furniture and kitchens ready for new stuff. Is anyone home in this State. This is just more money wasted with absolutely no rules or auditing going on. So I want my share, too, and throw in a generator as well because the power is out all the time around here.
