UPDATE: OceanFirst Bank Branch on Adamston Road Robbed, Nobody Hurt

Heavy police presence in the area

A bank robbery occurred at the OceanFirst Bank branch on Adamston Road, Brick police said.

The robbery was reported to police by an alarm company at approximately 3:45 p.m., Sgt. Keith Reinhard said.

At that time, an unknown suspect entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding money. The note indicated that the suspect had a handgun, but no weapons were shown, said Reinhard.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6 foot tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds. He was wearing a black baseball cap, dark hooded coat, a light grey shirt, blue jeans and dark sneakers.

The suspect left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money, entered a green vehicle, possibly a Mazda, and left the area.

"Fortunately no one was injured as a result of this robbery," said Reinhard.

No arrests have been made.

The incident is being investigated by Detectives Eric Olsen and Thomas Cooney from the Brick Township Police Department Investigations Unit along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Red Bank Office.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Detectives Olsen or Cooney at 732-262-1120 or the FBI at 732-741-0006.

Desmond -- Nothing glib intended, just a figure of speech. The police department sent us a photo of the robbery suspect, which came from an internal bank branch camera. If we hear anything new, we will post it.

And for the record, "Desmond Hume," you were my favorite character on "Lost." ;)

Hmmm I'm almost rooting for the robber, Between my savings account and my checking account and the interest rates I'm getting, you have to wonder who is robbing who. I spend more in gas going to deposit my check than I get in interest, maybe I'll start stuffing my mattress instead.

Put the bandit barriers up and call their bluff..I want to see the gun. These banks all had the barriers in place in the 80's..why they took the glass down I will never know.

I agree 100% put the bullet proof glass up, have micro cams for every teller window, install counter drawers so people cannot put their hands through to the teller side and have a speaker system that allows the customer to speak to the teller. The only set back to that is it leaves the offices exposed to a threat. Find a way around that and it could be a start.

Great spend the money to put all that up and next thing I know my interest rate will be .00001%, it's bad enough now. Seriously use your mattress it's safer and bank fee free.

The reason the camera says Toms River is because it is linked to the home office in Toms RIver. Even though the robbery occurred in Brick the video they used came from the home office monitoring system.

the good news is that banks never have much cash lying around --- if the guy got 2-3k I'd be surprised --- actually quite foolish for a felony -- probably easier to get a job --

There is patrol car and an officer within 150 feet of the bank's front door
The officer on duty must feel very foolish today

Chris just a fyi, i believe its standard bank policy not to activate their alarm until after robber is out of building in order to avoid any type of hostage situation. The officer at the vfw wouldnt get the call until the robber left the area anyway.
