Point Beach public schools are making a few revisions to the school year calendar to make up for days lost to Superstorm Sandy.

The changes are that there will be a full day of school on Feb. 15th and half days on Feb. 18th and Feb. 19th, said Point Beach Business Administrator Brian Savage. The two half days will be used for professional staff development after students are dismissed.

The Point Beach public schools were closed from Oct. 29th, when Sandy struck the Jersey Shore, through Nov. 2 and then from Nov. 5 through Nov. 7 the following week.

The district had originally planned to be closed on Nov. 8 and 9 for the annual New Jersey Teachers' Convention in Atlantic City. However, that convention was canceled due to the storm.

The school administration decided to open those two days, which compensated for two of the days lost to Sandy.

The changes to the February schedule and the opening of the school on the two days planned for the convention means that the district has scheduled to compensate for all but three of the Sandy days. The snow days originally banked into the calendar will be used to compensate for those three days, Savage said.

"We have no more snow days left, so if we have any snow days, we'll have to decide what to do," Savage said.

The Point Beach Board of Education voted for the calendar changes at its Dec. 18 meeting.
