Timothy Nobel sure knows how to spread the goodness around.
The eleven-year-old boy from Point Boro raised a staggering $3,221 for Ocean of Love by holding a bake sale during the recent Seafood Festival in Point Pleasant Beach.
Tim presented the check to Ocean of Love’s Executive Director and Founder, Linda Gillick, on October 3.
Gillick, during a recent phone interview, said she found the endeavor, “in a word – amazing! It’s not just the amount of money he raised, but to see the joy that this experience has brought to Tim, has made the whole thing so special.”
Gillick’s sentiments are echoed by Tim’s mother, Karen. She had instructed her son to “do something good for the community” during last summer’s school vacation. She never imagined the diligence Tim would display, or the result he would achieve.
“We are just so proud to see Tim and the kids that helped him, take time away from their vacation to do something to help children who are not as fortunate as they are," she said.
"It was wonderful to see these children working together and raising a remarkable amount of money selling cupcakes, cookies and brownies. I think a special shout-out also needs to go out to all the teachers and parents who baked to make this event a success,” Gillick added.
Several of Tim’s friends and former classmates baked treats, and some even showed up during the sale to lend a hand.
The current Miss New Jersey Teen Ambassador, Sammi Mazza, baked and made an appearance at the sale, no doubt boosting sales, while wearing her crown and sash. She had learned of Tim’s fundraiser through the Ocean of Love staff, and was enticed to befriend Tim and encourage his venture.
One of the reasons Tim selected Ocean of Love was because of their very low overhead costs. Less than four percent of the organization’s budget is spent on administrative fees, with the balance serving Ocean County children with cancer and their families.
Tim is already thinking about what he will do to help the community next year. But his mom, who literally spent days baking, is hoping it doesn’t involve frosting!
