Point Boro: FEMA Extends Deadline for Hazard Mitigation Grants
March 19 is new deadline for Boro residents to file with Boro Hall
Point Borough residents who were flooded by Sandy now have until March 19 to apply for FEMA Hazard Mitigation grants, according to a notice FEMA sent to Point Borough.
All applications must be filed at Point Borough's Borough Hall on Bridge Avenue and the Borough will submit them as a group, said Borough Administrator David Maffei.
"This is a competitive grant and there is no guarantee that anyone will receive funding," Maffei said.
The original deadline was today, but the Borough was notified that the deadline has been extended, Maffei said (see attached PDF).

The Point Borough Council had voted at a recent meeting to participate in the grant program. FEMA requires that a local governing body vote to participate before their residents can apply.
FEMA has said that any residents with property damaged in Sandy can apply, but that ultimately states may give preference to those seeking assistance for primary homes since the grants are competitive and funds are limited.
Editor's Note: When the first article on this grant program was posted, some Point Beach residents asked if this is only for Point Borough residents. The answer is that the first step is for the Point Beach Council to vote to participate, which may happen at an upcoming meeting and Patch will post that information. Readers in other towns outside Point Borough and Point Beach will have to first check with their towns to see if they have voted to participate.
