Point Boro Shoe Drive Collected Nearly 600 Pairs

Point Borough Climate Action Committee worked with library, local schools and groups

Hundreds of Point Borough residents recently collected nearly 600 pairs of shoes for the needy.

The , sponsored by the borough Climate Action Committee, in partnership with Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, collected the shoes from the bins placed around town, paired them up and secured and bagged them.

Laura Malta, of the Climate Action Committee, said in a prepared statement that the committee is thanking the borough school district; the borough branch of the library and the municipal government "who all embraced the proposal of this event from the start and pulled together to make this the great accomplishment that it was."

"A special thanks goes out to Joy Blazak and Chris Leitner who each delivered a ton of collected shoes to the Edison warehouse in order to circumvent shipping costs of $1 per pair," the statement says.

"As a town we supported the national America Recycles Day mission and, in the process, helped many hundreds of individuals who are in need of footwear."
