Point Boro Water Fine

Emergency and government officials assure public

Point Borough water is safe to drink, according to Borough Emergency Management Coordinator Bill Dikun on Wednesday evening.

He said a radio station inaccurately reported that there is a problem with Borough water, which sparked widespread rumors.

Councilman Chris Leitner said the Borough Public Works Department officials have been, and continue to, monitor the Borough's water supply and are confident it's safe. He said the other rumor, that the water is being shut off tonight, is also untrue and that there is simply no need to shut off water.

The mandatory evacuation order for all areas south of Bridge Avenue bordering Barnegat Bay and Beaver Dam Creek remains in effect.

In other news, there is a curfew for all non-emergency or essential adults and children 5 p.m. through 7 a.m until further notice.

The Borough has suspended the sale of alcohol until further notice.

The Borough has also said it's not yet known when regular collection of trash and recycling can resume.

The Borough is also asking motorists to try to avoid driving in and around the Borough when possible.

"Stay off the roads, this is not a time for tourism," says a prepared statement from the Borough mayor, emergency management, police, fire and first aid departments.

"If you are on the roads, obey all traffic laws. An inoperable traffic light should be considered a stop sign."

There are at least two more days of tidal flow; areas near the water are not safe, the statement says.

Household trash, but not storm debris, will be accepted at the recycling center.

School is closed for the rest of the week.

The Borough High School is no longer being used as a shelter. All evacuees have been transported to Miller Air Park in Berkeley.
