Or is it time to give the young guns a chance? The young guns in this case are in they're sixties already so maybe one of them deserves a shot while there's still time.
Part of this discussion might also include the issue of a mandantory retirement age for the sheriff.

The New Jersey Watchdog report is an interesting read. It shows just how contradictory our Illustrious Governor is and just how good he is at talking out of both sides of his mouth. When his Deputy Chief of Staff collects as a retiree and is getting a paycheck for his state job, that's fraud. When the Lt.Governor "fudged" a report so her friend could collect a larger pension, that's fraud.
The Governor hasn't kept one campaign promise. State debt at record high level, property taxes at record high levels, unemployment at record high levels. "Do as I say, not as I do", right Governor? Run for President all you want Chris, You can't hide from your failed record, no matter how much you say it's a "comebeck".

I'm sorry but this article is missing some relevant information and could seem biased. It trumpets Mr. Polhemus' salary to the penny but fails to mention any other income the challengers have. It does not mention how many years he spent in the Seaside PD nor McMenamin's in Stafford. Nor is Mr. Armstrong's pension figure is available. And hey, $7836 a year isn't too shabby for five years work either. I just don't like the way this article is lead in and the lack of some data. I don't know enough about the candidates but I feel a little slant here. Is it intentional? Probably not but........

Bud Armstrong has no law enforcement background and the other one left Stafford Twp on questionable circumstances. Research him through Google and you will see why and how he left the police dept.

Abolish the sheriff dept, they do nothing for you as does most of county goverment. Goverment is way too big, we only need our towns, a small county and an even smaller state one.

The law should state that when you take another Gov't job your pension should stop until you no longer have that Job/position and then your pension picks back up. You will then see how fast they don't want the 'other' job!

He's not being deceptive. Think about it, its not like some one asked him his salary and he said he wasn't disclosing it or he kept it hidden. That would be deceptive.
No where does it say if he runs for Sheriff that he has to disclose his persion amt or his salary. If they are going to continue to pay him why wouldn't he take it? You know damn well if it was offered to you or I, we would take it as well.

OK bottom line says we are paying out a total of 9.1million to 51 retired state people. Now that comes to approx $271.000. per year. How many people that live in Ocean county can say they retired and make over $75,000/yr. Either this number is wrong or the people of NJ must find a way to stop it.

The man works and should be paid. His pension is based on being a police officer who worked his way through the ranks. He was a civil servant.
He worked many years of nights weekends and holidays in a thankless job with pretty much the scum of the earth. His family never knew if he would be walkong through that door later or if he would be meeting his maker at the hands of some moron. Does he qualify for another pension as Sheriff? Since he is already 84 and well past the life expectancy tables, if he does, who gets this pot of gold? That is the triple dip.

At 84 he has probably been collecting a pension for 30 years. 30 years x say 43k on average. $1.3 million in retirement income thanks to the taxpayers

Wake Up Doreen, Did you know that thousands of people apply to become police officers for each town? As an employer that tells me I'm offering too much in terms of salary, benefits, & retirement. A good business person knows when he has the upper hand and can reduce the offer, NOT keep giving the house away!

What a decision this year for Sheriff. And remember, as for as the current sheriff, your current freeholders stand behind this double dipper all the way. A lot of complaints about the Sheriff, but I read one solution (thanks to letsgetreal and Redonred): Stop voting for him. Vote for the other guy (Bob Armstrong). For those who would put him dowm because he was not in law enforcement, allow me to point out one thing: Many in law enforcement have a military background, and judging from his photo, it looks like Mr. Armstrong does too. I'm willing to give him a chance, how about you? Just my opinion. Vote for the person, not the party.
