Police Investigating Incident at Walgreen's, Route 35

Police at scene Monday night only hours after responding to a false theft report there

 

Police were at Walgreen's, Route 35 South, Point Pleasant Borough, investigating an incident Monday night, only hours after investigating a false report of a theft outside the same store.

Patch has been unable to reach any police officials authorized to release information to the media. However, a store manager said shortly after 7:30 p.m.  that there had been "an incident" at the store that police are investigating, the store is closed, but may be open later tonight and he cannot release any further details.

Point Borough police and the Ocean County Criminalistics Investigation Unit, part of the county sheriff's department, were on the scene. A Point Pleasant Beach police officer had been there, but left the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m.

The store, just north of Route 88 westbound, on the eastern end of the Borough, typically closes at 10 p.m. weeknights.

This morning, Borough police were at the same store, investigating an initial report of a theft outside the store that turned out to be false, according to Borough Police Captain Richard Larsen.

A man living temporarily at a hotel in Point Pleasant Beach was charged Monday with a disorderly person's offense of making a false report to law enforcement authorities, Larsen said.

Larry F. Space, 52, who was displaced from his Toms River home by Superstorm Sandy, and has been living at the Point Pleasant Manor, Point Pleasant Beach, was charged on Monday after allegedly concocting a story about two women stealing his medication outside Walgreen's, Route 35, Larsen said.
