According to The Toms River Township Police Department’s Chief Michael Mastronardy, a pair local of citizens were arrested for heroin possession on Friday evening.

“Just before 6 p.m. on Friday evening at the intersection of Route 37 and Route 166, Officer Ryan Quinn arrested Christopher Viscel, 43, of Baylor Avenue in South Toms River and Robin Warden, 33, of Webster Avenue in Seaside Heights, for possession of heroin,” said Mastronardy.

The chief indicated that the arrest was made by Quinn after performing a motor vehicle stop of Viscel and Warden’s vehicle.

A traffic signal violation led to a two-person crash in the western section of the township on Friday morning.

“At 1030 a.m., Alvina Bigos, 79, of Manchester, was eastbound on Route 37 at Bimini Drive, when her 2000 Mercury collided with a 2004 Cadillac operated by Anthony Orfandies, 70, of Holiday City at Berkeley, that was crossing Route 37 southbound on Bimini Drive,” said the chief. 

Mastronardy said that Bigos was issued a summons for a traffic signal violation by Traffic Safety Officer Terry Warren, while Orfandies and his passenger, 56 year-old Sharon Orfandies were both treated at Community Medical Center.

Finally, a utility pole in front of the Ciba Geigy plant on Oak Ridge Park was struck at around 11:30 a.m. on Friday morning.

“Dawn Leiser, 47, of Toms River, was southbound on Oak Ridge Parkway when she lost control of her car and struck a utility pole near the CIBA Geigy plant,” Mastronardy described.

“Traffic Safety Corporal Frank Palino is investigating the accident, in which the driver stated she was distracted after she noticed a spider in her vehicle,” said the chief.

The chief indicated that Leiser was transported to Community Medical Center for medical treatment and utility crews worked into the night repairing the utility pole.
