Power Back in Parts of Point Boro and Point Beach

JCP&L continues to work on power restoration in the two towns and surrounding areas.

Parts of Point Borough and Point Beach have power restored, while others still wait in the dark.

At 6:40 p.m., 7,359 JCP&L customers were still without power in Point Borough,  a town of 3,981 customers and approximately 20,000 residents, according to the JCP&L outage map.

At that time, 1,066 customers were without power in Point Beach, a town of nearly 5,000 permanent residents and 9,763 customers (the customers include households that are not occupied by full-time, year-round residents).

In Ocean County overall, there were 170,303 who still had no power Thursday evening, and 108,265, or 39 percent, who had been restored, said Ron Morano, JCP&L spokesman.

In Monmouth County, 234,208 were still without power Thursday evening and 41,323, or about 15 percent, had been restored, Morano said.

In Point Borough, neighborhoods around River Avenue and Bridge Avenue, including the traffic light at the intersection, and at least a few neighborhoods near the Manasquan River were starting to come back to life by mid-afternoon Thursday.

However, the traffic light on Beaver Dam Road and Bridge Avenue and the street lights in that area were still inoperative at that time.

In the Comments section of another Patch story a reader writes:

"Meg, 6:31 pm on Thursday, November 1, 2012, OMG... Pt Pleasant Boro by middle school/ little league field just got power! The whole neighborhood is cheering! 3 long days!"

Borough Police Chief Larry Williams said on Thursday afternoon that power had been restored to some sections of town, including Ocean Road School, and that JCP&L was working hard in the Borough to restore the remaining outages.

"A lot of the guys working here live in the Borough and take great pride in trying to get the Borough restored as quickly as possible," Williams said.

Williams added that he is urging residents to stop calling police dispatch to complain about power outages and with other questions and problems that they cannot answer and cannot control.

Dispatch has been flooded with thousands of calls from four different towns and needs to be called only for true police emergencies, officials have said.

Also, trash collection is getting back to normal Friday and Monday, but recycling collection is still not on a normal schedule, according to Borough Department of Public Works officials who met with local emergency management, police and government offiicials at Borough Hall on Thursday afternoon.

Further details about collection of trash, recycling, storm debris, brush and leaves will be available on Friday and posted on Patch.

Tell Us: Do you have power restored in Point Borough or Point Beach? Please let us know in the Comments section with the name of the street you live on and the name of the town (please only comment if you live in the Borough or the Beach.)

This story will be updated as more information about power restoration becomes available.
