Point Boro Girl Rescued from Manasquan Inlet Fall

12-year-old slipped on jetty, taken to hospital with minor leg injury

A Point Pleasant Borough girl who slipped and fell Sunday while playing on the Manasquan Inlet jetty in Manasquan suffered no serious injuries, police said Monday.

The 12-year-old fell in between the jetty rocks shortly after 7 p.m. and was pulled out by a human chain of police, fire and first-aid officials, Manasquan Police Chief Elliott Correia said.

In accordance with standard procedure, she was carried off the jetty to safety in a litter (or rescue basket), Correia said.

The girl complained of a leg injury and was transported by ambulance to a hospital Sunday night, Correia said. The injury did not appear serious, he added.

Authorities did not release the girl's name.

Who was she with??? No one should be playing on the jetty rocks! It's just common sense, they're wet or get slippery from moss or slime. It's seems like we have another adult vying for parent of the year award.

I always see kids walking the jetty rocks, it is not that bad during low tide but yes very slippery. Kids should just be kids come on be fair here "David" yes you can get hurt, as seen here, but is this really and truly worse off than what majority of children these days are doing?

I hope everything is alright with this young girl now.

First and foremost, I hope this girl is now in the best of health and spirits. But I have to disagree with you Sophia, it doesn't matter what the majority of children are doing. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem most people realize how dangerous this jetty can be if you slip, hit your head, pass out and fall down into the crevices. Your dead and you don't get a second chance. I would never allow my daughter out there... with or without me! Yes, it was a different time but I look back at a lot of the things I did unsupervised growing up as a child and I thank God that I'm still alive.

Why so bitter "David"? It was an unfortunate accident. The parents in question are fantastic parents. Sometimes stupid things just happen. I sure hope you don't live in a glass house. Where is your compassion? Obviously it is a lesson learned.

David does not sound bitter to me. He is just making the point that it only takes one moment of a bad decision to take a life. Even if the girls parents are great...they made a bad choice in letting her go out there. We all make mistakes, but hopefully people can.learn from this story. I'm glad she is ok, but this could have easily gone the other way.

Thanks Jen... it's just a shame how you get chastised if you don't bend over backwards tring to comfort the parents in a forum like this. I'm definitely not bitter as I have been accused of... more like I'm sorry to see such a lack of common sense when it comes to parenting. Like my brother always say's, "You need a license to catch a fish in New Jersey but there's not qualification required to be a parent". It's a damn shame in some cases, not particularly in this case.

Ok,
1. I was there with her.
&
2. It was not a human chain. a Man pulled her out and gave her to my friend and I.
