Registration Starts Sat. for Point Beach Battle of the Bands

Event is on March 24 and benefits Project Graduation

Saturday is the first day of registration for a Battle of the Bands that will raise money for Point Beach High School's Project Graduation.

While the event is not until March 24 at Point Beach High School, organizers are urging all interested bands to register between 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday or on Feb. 11 at Ocean County Music and Electronics, 619 Arnold Ave., Point Beach.

Those who cannot be at either of the registration events can mail registration information to Jen Moran, Point Beach High School, 700 Trenton Ave., Point Beach, with the envelope postmarked by Feb. 18, which is the deadline to register.

Organizers are also urging residents and businesses who care about graduates having a safe, alcohol-free, supervised place to celebrate after graduation to provide sponsorships.

Moran said she is asking the community to help fund and to volunteer, even if it's just a minimal amount of time, to help make Project Graduation a reality. The school is hoping to hold the event after graduation at the Atlantic Club, Wall, but that plan will be in jeopardy if sufficient funds are not raised, Moran said.

The Battle of the Bands is from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Point Beach High School gym and doors open at 6:30 p.m.
