Seriously...someone is severely injured and your upset about loud sirens. How about being grateful that you were only woken up by the sirens and not the reason...Just saying.

The need for sirens at night when no one was on the road is abserd. That's why we need paid firemen. The firemen get mad if you call them 2 to 3 times for the same thing. Its all in proper training which they all need including the chief.

Seriously injured the fire department was called for a wash down. She was out of the car and @ the hospital by the time they arrived.

Although emergency vehicles usually try to be quiet/courteous with sirens late at night and not unnecessarily use them - they certainly will if needed (as they should). Day OR night. Regardless if it interr ups someone's nappy time. One of MY pet peeves is when I see someone NOT immediately pulling over for a blue or red light. Its a STATE law (and probably Fedaral too) to yield to either. What if they were on the way to save a family member!

Yes Captain Ed. What AMAZES me most is that the majority of drivers seem to think that they just have to move over, out of the way, BUT keep on driving!! You are supposed to pull over, OFF the road and completely STOP, until the emergency vehicle passes, even if there is no one else on the road!!

Really? It was well before midnight on a Friday night.... and you complainers were already in bed and asleep? Even if you do go to bed that early for some reason, ok, so once in a blue moon an emergency vehicle wakes you up and it's worth complaining about? Seriously?
My 83 yr old mother stays up later than that. Get a life and stay up later.... and stop complaining about *everything*.

@Jonathan...that is not always the case if someone needs to be extracted from a vehicle or if someone is trapped under a tree stump on Thanksgiving like my neighbor...they weren't there for a "wash down"...but to help pull that tree up to free him...Again I say...How about being GRATEFUL you were only woken up by the sirens and NOT the reason.

I have a two year old son. And since Sandy we haven't had a decent night sleep. I pay taxes just like everyone else. Someone needs to put a stop to this. If my home was ever on fire which I highly doubt. I don't need to hear sirens in my ear just to feel safe. Please stop the sirens.

i work a midnight shift, get up at 11pm and get home from work at 9am, i manage to deal with all the noise that "normal people make during the day" while i am trying to sleep, i also volunteer to save your family in a time of need while putting mine aside, who don't you "man up" and learn to adapt to your situation instead of complain about it?

this country was founded and built by people who "manned up" and got he job done, not people the "bitched and complained" and waited for people to do things for them.

Some of you obviously have never needed the help of the Fire or EMS because if you did you wouldn't think of only yourselves. How selfish this is all because you were inconvenienced and lost a little sleep. In light of all that has happened you would think people would have compassion for another...Obviously some people don't...and they are very sad and pathetic.

All I'm saying is that I don't need to be woke up in the middle of the night by those annoying sirens for something that has nothing to even do with me..Why should I lose sleep over someone else's problem

Ya I do pay taxes. And very high taxes at that. And as a tax payer there is no reason me or anyone else should put up with this garbage. I understand that volunteer work helps but don't think for one second these people are doing this for free. There are selfish benefits to even so called volunteer work.

I have been a volunteer since 1984 and have lost plenty of sleep. I have never complained. Volunteer with an EMS or Fire Department and see what really goes on. Just saying...

Ok so reading some of these comments make me sick..I am a volunteer here in town..i'm not looking for a pat on the back or a thank you for what I choose to do..but some of you people could be a lil more understanding for the job that we do..while responding with lights, sirens are to be used to go through an intersection safely or if other drivers DO NOT move.we don't use them to be ignorant.with that being said please keep in mind if u were in need of an emergency vehicle would want us stopping at every red light and taking a leisurely stroll to ur emergency.what may not be a big deal to you is to the person who needs
us. I understand u may pay taxes and want to call the shots but that's not the way it works in reality.if u want it that quiet than move to the mountains in Utah!

I'm not talking about the use of sirens at intersections that's fine. But a lot of these sirens that go off around town are just uncalled for. Just like how some of the volunteer workers in town think they wear a badge.

That's my point..to you they may be uncalled for but if you're not there than that's not fair to say. As far as volunteer workers thinking they wear a badge well most of us do.I wear one while on a truck. If u have a problem with other volunteers than take the appropriate channels to address that issue. On here is not the time or the place!!

seriously all people have to do ids complain about sirens? sorry but most areas of NewJersey are not quiet desolate places...I had to call ems at 2am and they came with a siren on to get through the intersections and woke up my neighbor...he came over to see if everything was ok...not complain about being woken up...these people are out there doing their jobs...wash down or not...so what if they didn't come and the gasoline exploded right as you and your family drove by and you were injured...some people just need to find something to complain about...

You are right. Most volunteers wear badges. But having a sewed on badge "patch" does not give them the right to speed up and down our streets putting innocent people in harms way.

Michael and Donald obviously do not have a life and were not given any toys when they were a kid. Oh that right they are still kids or at least acting like one with all of this nonsense. I can't believe any normal human being would be complaining about sirens. As for the badge you mention, I would consider it a badge of honor and it doesn't matter whether it is pinned on or sewn on. These men and women volunteer to assist any human being that needs it and use no prejudice as to who they help. Obviously you have never volunteered or helped another person. The only self gratification they get is that awesome feeling of knowing they did something to help another human being.

The sewn on badges are part of a different organization in town. For those of you who are complaining about the use of sirens waking you up, I would suggest you consult the Title 39 code in regards to emergency vehicles. Specifically 39:4-91 which states that an emergency vehicle MUST use both audible sirens along with lights in order for vehicles to pull over. If you are upset with that, I would suggest writing your senator to change the law. If you do not think that this was a situation in which the vehicles did not have to use lights or sirens, then I would suggest writing the mayor or the police department. Either way, there is no need to bash the VOLUNTEER fire department or EMS crews for following the law, and their training.

Ya that's great I understand that this world needs EMT workers and of course fire and police. But most so called volunteers in towns are people that could not get a real job. Weather it be in medical paid firefighter where they would have to be physically fit or law enforcement. Sad but true. I just am sick and tired of all the big men on campus. Stop the sirens.

Are you complaining about how these volunteers (which I am not sure what is with the quotation marks, are you implying that they are actually paid employees?) drive there personal vehicles to the firehouse, or are you complaining about the sirens that they are required by law to use?

I personally love it when i hear sirens when i am sleeping no matter of the time. It assures me that someone or someones home or possesions are going to be helped very shortly. Thank god we have people in these positions who can put the extra time in for the sake of us all. To those of you with negative comments about volunteers and first responders and SIRENS!!!! You are complete morons and the selfish all about me people that need a good smack in the mouth! FRENCH BENEFITS!! what an assh%le.

The problem I have is not with the work these "volunteers" do. It is the way they dangerously drive to the firehouse or the place of accident. The sirens are abused and the speeding is way out of line. And I know some volunteers have great jobs. I'm talking about the majority of them that when younger wanted to be a paid firefighter but was to out of shape to pass a physical. I'm talking about the person who mentally wasn't capable of going through medical school. Not all of them but most are thinking that they are above the law. And it makes me sick. And by the way, do u think EMT or fire pay for any of there shirts that they so proudly wear when they are just out around town. No way.

First let's hope the driver is ok. Secondly, I have been a vol. Fireman for 16 and a half years I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. Yes I to have lost many a nite sleep, but I don't care. I love what I do when I'm helping someone in need. For those complaining about sirens, for one it could of been a simple wash down, but do you know how it was dispatched to the fire dept. No you don't. Countless times fire departments are dispatched for calls which are totally different upon arrival. So until you go through the countless hours of training and actually answer a call, please know what you are talking about before you comment.

Yes thank you volunteers for racing down my streets day and night with your lights and sirens blaring and putting other cars on the road In danger for non emergencies.

You people never cease to amaze me. All I read about is how people pay to much in taxes. Well be thankful for volunteer's. A paid dept. Would send ur taxes a hell of a lot higher. As for those complaining about volunteers racing down your street, you chose to live near a firehouse or ems squad, which probably saved you on your homeowners insurance. But u won't complain about that.

I don't care at all about paying taxes or insurance. But at least make me feel like its going to something worth while. Not just to building egos of those who didn't make it in the real world.

I would rather have a paid dept. Then have a bunch of untrained cowboys using my town as there personal wild wild west.

For all you ignorant people the only difference between a paid and volunteer department is the pay check. New Jersey has the same requirements for both. For those who think its ego building, have you tried to get on a paid department in this state. It requires you are a resident of that city or town. You people have no clue what volunteer's go threw. So until you have what it takes to make that personal sacrifice, just say thank you and go on your way. The volunteer's in this state do it for the live of it. I hope you never need our help.

Let's sue them for using sirens. Besides volley Rescue Squaders are a thing of the past. The foamers who ride the fire trucks save me a boat load of money so let's keep them and make sure your home owners insurance is paid up. Pay people to do the EMS thing, and manage the hose guys professionally to make sure the kegs are turned off and people who become the chiefs are qualified and not just the most popular down there.

Volunteer doesn't give you the knowledge of quoting title 39; about lights and siren. Its all about common knowledge like when no one is on the road and not aproaching an intertsection um let's wake up the people that didn't give us a donation. Paid departments don't do stupid things like this. Remember its all about training ! The paid EMS workers of Brick don't do it or volunteer EMS of Brick.

donald hinman - I might suggest that you feel you are not paying enough in taxes or funding public pensions nearly generously enough. Personally, I think I pay too much on both counts. By all means, feel free to cut a charitable check to any paid public fire department in the state. In the meantime, I'll continue to be thankful for and support those who volunteer to run into a burning building to save a perfect stranger. My gut tells me you probably don't have the intestinal fortitude to do the same for your neighbors. That's OK. But please don't feign indignance because others choose to be good citizens.

If I am awakened by sirens in the middle of the night, it tells me someone is in trouble and that others are going to their aid. Yes I am a volunteer, but my full time job I deal with title 39 all day long. Yes title 39 does state if emergency lights are activated so will be the siren. Yes we are volunteers, but we do work jobs just like the rest of you. As for those who think we are not professional because we do it for free, think again we are trained to the same standards as paid firemen. Don't believe join a fire company and go thru the required 150 plus hours of basic firefighting.

For people to complain about sirens late at note in Brick. The last time I check that town has traffic just about around the clock.

I think sirens are annoying. I don't think they should be a loud to use them ever. Unless it's for a parade. And I think there are too many cops around. I have a gun and don't text when in driving, so I'm good. If anyone has a problem with that I am always at the brick house so say it to my face!

I am terrified of fire and hate the site of blood- However do I think that makes me a better person then anyone else? NO! It also doesn't make me worse... Its just a fact-I have true respect for Firefighters, Police and EMS- have had to use their services enumorous times due to family health issues- and to be honest lights or not sirens or not I really don't care- when someone you love is gasping for breath you don't care if the whole neighborhhod is awoken....You become focused on the moment..I thank god for the trained people that come and help us- Paid not paid it don't matter.
