Stove Fire on New York Avenue in Point Beach

Stove fire spread to counter, but quickly extinguished by firefighters

A stove fire spread to a kitchen counter in Apt. 11 at 701 New York Avenue on Sunday night, said Point Pleasant Beach Fire Chief Mark Drew.

There were no injuries.

The fire department was called to the scene at 9:48 p.m. When they arrived, police had already responded to the scene and used a fire extinguisher to put out a stove fire.

When firefighters entered the kitchen, they found light smoke, a broken gas line that had been connected to the stove, and a small counter fire that they quickly extinguished, Drew said.

About 30 firefighters responded to the scene for about 45 minutes, led by Assistant Fire Chief A.J. Fox, Drew said.

That was one of eight calls between Friday and Sunday night for the volunteer fire department, he added.
