Suspect in Brick Armed Robberies Arrested

Frank Laggan, of Neptune, is charged

The suspect in two armed robberies of convenience stores last weekend has been captured by police.

Frank Laggan, 31, of Neptune, was arrested Wednesday charged with arming himself with a knife and entering two Brick convenience stores within an hour to rob them.

In both robberies – which took place at the Route 88 7-Eleven and the Lanes Mill Road Wawa – the suspect got away without any money.

Working from a tip from an anonymous source regarding the identity and whereabouts of the suspect, Brick police were dispatched to an undisclosed address where the suspect was alleged to be at that time, said Sgt. Keith Reinhard.

As patrol units were en-route, Officers George Williams and Richard Nelson located the suspect vehicle, a green Dodge Dakota pickup truck, on Mantoloking Road and initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Mantoloking and Hooper Avenue, Reinhard said.

Laggan, the vehicle's only occupant, was initially taken into custody without incident on several unrelated, outstanding warrants out of Wall Township and Bradley Beach.

As a result of an investigation by Detectives Daniel Waleski and James Burgess, Laggan was charged with two counts of robbery, one count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon.

Laggan's bail was set by Superior Court Judge Francis Hodgson in the amount of $250,000 cash.  He was ultimately transported to the Ocean County Jail in lieu of bail.

I don't recall who it was, but when the story was first posted, someone wrote on the comments, looks like Frank Laggan to me. That person was on the money. He or she deserves credit.

250K bail? Guess this guy will never see the light of day again before trial. Obviously not going to be using his robbery proceeds for bail money.

If I remember correctly, in both instances the store clerk resisted and he left empty handed. Except maybe for those cans of Red Bull ...
