Trick or Treating Canceled Today in Point Boro
A new date for Trick or Treating is "highly unlikely," say police
Trick or treating is cancelled today in Point Borough, according to the Borough police department.
Borough officials had been saying trick or treating today would be left to the discretion of parents, regarding when and where to trick or treat and that there may also be a "trick or trunk" at the Stop & Shop parking lot on Bridge Avenue sometime today.
However, the police department said on Monday morning that all of that has been cancelled for safety reasons.
"Chief Williams made the decision to cancel trick or treating today for the safety of the kids and any pedestrians," said Captain Richard Larsen. "We still have wiring hanging on some streets and we still have trees and limbs out on some roads. There are also sections of town that still have no power. For anyone to be walking on roads that don't have street lights is a safety concern."
Larsen said it is "highly unlikely" that the Borough will schedule a new date for trick or treating.
"This isn't going to go away tomorrow," he said. While JCP&L has said it hopes to have power restored to all areas still out in the Borough by Wednesday, that's not a guarantee and there are still remaining concerns about hanging wires and trees in some roadways, Larsen noted.

I certainly understand... Our Big Mouth Governor had to open his mouth as usual and promise the kids of Nj that they were going to get their chance to trick or treat. Sure...The lies that come out of his mouth. It has just been one after the other.

It is sad that the children were promised a little joy in this trying time, then had it taken away that morning. I don't see how trick or trunk in a specific loctaion would have been a problem. If safety is such an issue from the hours of 1pm - 5 pm that kids can't get together, then why is it safe for Pt Boro to have bars open on roads with no street lights until the wee hours of the night? I guess a bunch of drunk people driving in the dark presents less of a safety issue than kids getting candy.

Don't you know in this area it is all about bars, drinking and parties...That is what comes first and everything else is second.
