Young boy taken to hospital with possible compound leg fracture; status of adult hit on Bridge Avenue in Boro unknown

There were two pedestrians struck in separate accidents on Saturday, one in Point Beach and one in Point Borough, according to police.

A 4-year-old boy was hit by a car Saturday afternoon in Point Pleasant Beach, police said.

The incident occurred inside the Silver Lake municipal parking lot off Arnold Avenue, Sgt. Richard Otto said.

The child suffered a possible compound fracture to his left leg and was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment, Otto said.

No summonses were issued as the incident is still under investigation, Otto said.

Also on Saturday, an adult pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle on Bridge Avenue, according to borough police.

No details regarding possible injuries were immediately disclosed by police.

Geee things haven't changed on Bridge Avenue...my mother was killed by a hit and run driver on this road in 1973....the people that killed her were never found and it apparently fell through the cracks..interesting.

Sorry, That is really sad!! Something as devastating should have never fell through the crack. To many individuals are in a hurry and drink to much. The mix is deadly.

Or maybe it was a moronic pedestrian gallivanting in the middle of the street? Seems to be a recurring theme lately.

Anyone or anything regardless of what they are doing in the road or who they are or where they're from is not supposed to be hit by a car. Basically the only thing that is unavoidable sometimes is an animal that all of a sudden darts out from an unseen area. Outside of that, the driver of a car should at all times be able to STOP HIS CAR FROM HITTING A SLOW MOVING OR INANIMATE OBJECT.

Listen Lucy, it was my daughter riding her bike with her friend... the drive let the friend go and never looked right again and hit her..... so before you make any comments... get your facts straight... she could have been killed.... and she was on the sidewalk .....

Bike lanes remind motorists that bicycles have a right to be on the road. Most of all, NJ's idiotic concept of bikes on the sidewalk, endangers cyclists and ped(estrians) alike.

When you have lots of cars and many pedestrians including bike riders, rules of the road need to be followed. Bikers need to ride on the right with traffic. So many times this law is broken and no one does anything about this. I’m a bike rider and honestly am scared to ride out on a main road such as Mantaloking Road. I’ve almost hit a rider because they were on the wrong side of the road and I was making a right turn, but looking left not expecting a (censored) biker riding on the wrong side of the road not paying attention at the intersection. I’m sure I would have been at fault if I struck this person. The police need to enforce the law. The law is the law…

@m292131, Unfortunately this is the mentality here, it is always everyone else's fault, never the driver. Good thing the child was not 17 or younger. There would be at least 30 more post blaming the parents that were not even there. They will bully the family especially the child because they can. Who is going to believe the young adult over the experience driver. Mean while you have drivers that are rude and they think they can do what ever they want, they don't look or pay attention, half of them have been drinking etc.... and if the police know you who knows what can happen. It is ridiculous, bikers and walker have the right away, just as boaters do, the people here seem to understand that when the bridge opens.

Lucy, I am that MORONIC PEDESTRIAN that you described so nicely in your post above. Thank you for the sympathy. And by the way, I was riding my bike on the sidewalk when the car struck my entire left side. I never went on the roads to give the cars the right of way. I was NOT at any time riding in the middle of the road "gallavanting" in the middle of the street as you described. Maybe you should learn to be courteous to others.. because you never know when something tragic could happen to you and your family.. like it did to mine.
learn to show some respect.

@lauren, I wish you a speedy recovery, sorry some are just so rude and don't know how to show respect. It always will change when the shoe is on the other foot and it would be totally different if it was their family member who was struck. I always say treat others how you want to be treated and you have to give respect to get it in return. You and your family deserves to be respected when something this tragic happens. Too much finger pointing and blaming going around. Some don't even read any longer, like you said you were on the " SIDEWALK" or they don't know the entire story and they are already Judging. Regardless who's at fault, sometimes we make mistakes, some are small and others are big, obviously this was a big mistake in which the driver made, but it was still a mistake and it seemed like he was very shaken up and sorry!! Everyone just needs to slow down, take a second it could save a life. I am just glad their was no alcohol involved.

Does anyone here understand that in the state of N.J. the pedestrian has the right of way? Do you know that you can get a ticket for not stopping and letting a pedestrian cross the road? What is wrong with people anyway? In such a rush and willing to risk lives to get nowhere!!!

Pedestrians have the right of way. Regardless of the situation, the car MUST STOP before hitting a pedestrian. It doesn't matter if the pedestrian is a stark raving lunatic running about inthe middle of the street.... THE DRIVER MUST STOP. There is NO EXCUSE admissable for hitting a pedestrian that is in plain sight. Why don't people drive their car SLOWER when sight-distance is diminished? I hear people saying "this corner is bad, you can't see who is around, etc. etc. THAT MEANS YOU SHOULD BE DRIVING S-L-O-W...! wow!
