Volunteers Invited to Discuss, Plan Sandy Recovery Efforts

Ocean County Department of Human Services is forming Long Term Recovery Committee

Nonprofits, faith-based communities and volunteer groups are invited to participate in a Long Term Recovery Committee that the Ocean County Department of Human Services is convening.

The Committee will meet from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 19 at the Holiday Inn, 290 Route 37 E., Toms River, to "focus on Ocean County needs resulting from the impact of Sandy," according to an email from Ryan Reilly, the coordinator of the Human Services Advisory Council.

"Ocean County's intention is not to take over the work of these agencies but to promote a formalized and unified effort. Ocean County is aware of the amazing outpouring of donations and volunteers that have come to help in its time of need; our aim is to ease efforts, not duplicate efforts, and foster a way to match the identified needs with the resources being offered to Ocean County," Reilly wrote.

The Long Term Recovery Committee aims to coordinate the "mobilization of resources at the federal, state and community levels" to respond to "critical recovery needs."

Volunteers, nonprofits and members of the faith-based communities are asked to RSVP to Reilly at rreilly@co.ocean.nj.us by Nov. 15.

I live in Toms River, Georgetown, Off of Indian Hill and Shenandoah. We had power the entire storm EXCEPT for 2 hours. Our lines are underground. Whatever the heck they did with our wires should be the "norm" for everyone else, imho* Rare we lose power no matter what the weather* Put that on the table* The have a successful model, now have them follow it!
