Republicans Turn Their Backs on our Veterans... Again

Talk is cheap and when it comes to funding federal programs intended to benefit our returning Veterans, Republicans are even cheaper. It is unconscionable for the Republicans to sing their own praises on how “they” support our Vets but at the same time consistently obstruct and veto programs intended to help our returning servicemen and women.

Republicans on Capitol Hill are the biggest culprits. In FY 2009, they voted against providing our troops in harm’s way in Iraq and Afghanistan with everything they need during the remainder of FY 2009, such as $1.9 billion more that was requested for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles to protect our troops. In 2010, they voted against providing special $500 payments for every month that 185,000 service members and veterans were forced to serve under stop-loss orders since September 11, 2001. Again in 2012, 29 Republicans voted (Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch did not vote) against restoring our nation’s military readiness by funding the Army’s and Marine Corps’ equipment reset requirements, giving the military a 3.4 percent pay raise, and expanding and strengthening health care services.

Republicans also voted against extending the New GI Bill college benefits to all children of service members who have died on active duty since 9-11-01.  Republicans voted against ensuring that activated military reservists do not suffer a pay cut by providing a tax credit for small businesses employers who continue to pay their National Guard and Reserve employees when they are called up to serve.

Now yesterday, the Republicans blocked a jobs bill for Veterans on the floor of the Senate. (http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/senate/250391-gop-kills-veterans-jobs-bill-with-budget-vote).

Support for our Vets must mean more than just a pat on the back; we need to support our Veterans with our generosity as a grateful nation. They did multiple tours, left their spouse and children, and sacrificed everything  for our nation and all the GOP wants to give them in return for their service is “lip” service , but no real thank you, just partisan politics. There is a time for politics and then there is a time to help, and now is the time to help our returning Veterans.

Laura,

You left wind liberals can't see the truth if it hit you between the eyes. No wonder this country is in such a mess.

If you go past all the political talking points and understand what really happened, you will see they actually are following proper procedures. There is a process for this stuff to be run through....some people are trying to skip that process....others are not.

While I believe in the bill, I believe in the proper procedures being followed.

Are you asleep and just wake up to write the stuff you dreamed about? The Republicans have not cutting military spending all by themselves. Where do you get this info from MSNBC? You seem like the kind of person that believes Corzine didn't do anything wrong. Oh, I forgot, that's Bush's fault.lol

Why don't you enlighten us all with this Republican "proper procedure", a GOP "procedure" that is more important than helping our Vets and keeps our Vets without a jobs program. At least, it gives Republicans more time bark at the moon about "procedure". Tell me...the world waits!

Yo Bobby, what procedure did the Democrats use to pass Obamascare? Why don't you enlighten us and tell us what process the Reps have not followed. While you are at it, explain why Medicare and Medicare spending is $800 B a year while the revenues are only $200 B a year to pay for it? Is borrowing money from our children to pay this difference OK with you?? Obama hates the military and the military hates him.

Bob is a Democrat, Democrats spit on our veterans during the Vietnam War and called them baby killers. During the Iraq War Democrats called our veterans murderers. You've got a looooong way to go Bob.

Come on neo-cons, you want to comment on the blog,,,go ahead,,,comment, but this GOP garbage that you are throwing around has nothing what-so-ever to do with our returning Veterans. Let me ask you this, how long are you going to run from yourselves? You’re running FROM your past record of indifference toward our Veterans, more than you are running against President Obama.

Bob when will you acknowledge the Democrats horrific treatment of our vets? When will you stop running from the Democrats very well documented unsavory history on this issue?
