Why I Voted For President Barack Obama

I just returned from my generator charged polling place to cast my vote for President. I proudly voted for President Obama for a second term. Here is why.

In January of 2009, President Obama took office while the nation was reeling from two wars and an historic recession. His cry for hope and change was heard by a nation that was tired of the Bush years and the failed financial policies of trickle down economics. The President understands that the greatness of our nation lies in recognition that the future must be different than the past, that climate change is real, that equal pay is essential, that the rights of all Americans must be protected and chrerished, that Government can play an important role in improving our lives, that shared sacrifice is in our soul as a nation, that infrastructure repair saves money, that green jobs, alternative energy and redcuing reliance on foreign oil is good energy policy, that education and training prepares Americans for the jobs of the future and that America is at its best when we respect each other instead of destroying each other.

The President has stayed true to these values and in his time of office has accomplished much. He signed a bill allowing women to sue for equal pay for equal work, he ended the war in Iraq, he authorized the Navy Seals to kill Bin Laden, he provided Federally backed loans to save the auto industry (paid back to Americans with interest), he signed legislation to protect consumers from deceptive credit card practices, put restraints on banks for their most egregious practices, he pushed through a stimulus that helped, contrary to the Republican narrative. The stimulus saved two million jobs, accounted for programs to improve rail, airport runways, electric grid systems and school construction.

He got us as close to universal health as we could have, an accomplishment never achieved by his predecessors. He ended Don't Ask Don't Tell, allowing gays to serve openly in defense of our nation. He pronounced his support for gay marriage, putting love above bigotry.

He has helped to create 5.5 million private sector jobs over a 33 consecutive month period. He has NOT doubled the defecit as his opponents suggest, but in actuality has reduced the pace of growth of government. He has presided over a growing economy during world financial crisis and has helped reduce unemployment from a high of 10.2 to under 8 percent while his opponents filibustered jobs bills.

He has suggested entitlements be put on the table for considered reductions to be balanced with some revenue increases. He has appointed two female Justices to the Supreme Court including the first Hispanic. He has by executive order helped young patriotic immigrants avoid deportation due to the decisions of their parents, keeping their skills and diversity as part of the American dream.

He built a coalition of nations in support of Libyan rebels, accounting for the death of Muammar Qadaffi. He has kept us out of another foolish and costly war and has a plan for the end of the longest war in American history.

He has presided with skill over national crises such as the BP oil spill and Sandy in a bipartisan and respectful fashion. He has been thoughtful in his approach, respectful of his enemies and has acted with dignity, compassion and has avoided a major scandal. He has acted to give Israel the greatest defense and intelligence support in history, this earning him Israel's largest newspaper endorsement.

He is a family man who sets the highest standard of family values and acted with skill in doing his job, against all odds, under constant hateful abuse from his enemies and has elevated the United States back to its respected place in the community of nations.

I pray he is our President for four more years to finish the work he has started.

The reasons why I did not vote for Mitt Romney are simple. He lies. He has not been a job creator. He wants to overturn Roe v. Wade. He wants to shut Planned Parenthood. He wants to reduce Pell grants. He wants to defund FEMA.

His vetoes as Governor were overturned at high levels, mitigating his recent narrative about crossing lines to work with the other party. He is against the right of marriage for same sex couples who love each other. He supports candidates that want to jail women who wish to abort a fetus created through rape and incest. He has picked a VP candidate who says the President is against Judeo Christian values.

He pretends to understand the Middle East, pandering to my fellow Jews without an ounce of understanding of Israel's soul and historic importance. He has mocked Palestinian efforts toward a two state solution only to change his mind.

He has told his donors that half of America wants to stay on welfare, lied about the Presidents welfare to work support. He has lied about auto jobs to China. He is a charlatan, a fake and a man with no connection to the Middle Class values that make this nation great.

Go Obama. Please vote. Where are you Americans for reason and truth?

Obama has done nothing to improve Americans' lives. The ACA is NOT the healthcare reform we needed or can afford. He's done nothing for minorities and women in the US in his entire 4 year tenure. He's done nothing on the environment. He's refused to work with Republicans from day 0 of his presidency. And he plays gold more than anybody I have ever known who isn't a professional golfer.

Stop making concessions with your votes. Gary Johnson has executive experience, he takes the right stance on social issues and the government's role in our lives. and He has CONCRETE ideas on the economy. The other two bozos are politicians through and through, and nothing else.

If you said Republicons wont work with Obama or the Dems youd be right
Republicons have blocked everything
Guess you missed it when Ole Mitch said his only goal was to make Obama a 1 term President
That worked out about as well as the Bush tax cuts for creating jobs

A vote for Gary Johnson is a vote for Gary Johnson. It's a message to our government that the two party system is no longer safe. It's a vote for someone who has real ideas and principles, and doesn't just take orders from his party bosses.

There's no reasoning with people like YOU, sheep who blindly follow whoever some party boss decided you should follow.

Obama has not given the economy the attention it deserves, spending way too much time on a health care plan that the vast majority of people disapprove of. Romney has a dearth of ideas, and proved to be just as ineffective a public servant as Obama was during his four years as Governor of Massachusetts. Gary Johnson has a proven track record of success in both the public and private sectors, and should have received far more media attention than he did. In spite of that, he is likely to pull more of the vote than any independent candidate since H. Ross Perot, and that is nothing to sneeze at. He will run again in 2016, and he will certainly have more attention than he did this time out. If we get a President Romney and he turns out to be as big of a bust as Obama did (and he will), maybe then the people will understand that it's time to move away from the two major parties and try something different.

Nice propaganda piece from a teacher. It's no wonder we are in such a mess when the teachers of our children cannot distinguish propaganda from fact. It will be very interesting when the election results are known. I expect the shameless mainstream media to be exposed as the propaganda organs they are.

I want to live in a country where the government is limited, and a talented man or woman can grow wealthy and provide opportunities for others by their investing. I DO NOT want to live in a country with an ever expanding government limiting my options and seizing whatever property it wants from private citizens.

All these Obama haters posting without reacting to any piece of the opinion article. If you disagree with something specifically cite a piece of the article and state your disagreement. Don't just make generalizations such "he has done nothing for us" or insulting the person because he has an opinion that is different than yours. The people I am most disappointed with are the tea party hijackers that have turned the Republican party from a moderate voice on spending to uncompromising idealogues. Our government was built on compromise and if the Republicans can't compromise on anything, they should all be voted out of office.

BS.
I'd submit to you that the writer of this article probably has no clue what Universal Healthcare even entails.

You want anyone that disagrees not to use generalizations when the majority of this article is nothing more then generalizations. The above quote is a perfect example.

How about Mr. Baker explains how the AMA has brought us closer to Universal Healthcare. Since Obama wasted over a year on getting it passed.

Meez: Do you have your head buried that far in the sand that you think increasing our debt by over $5 trillion is "fixing" the problems with this country? They're playing you for a fool if you honestly think that one major party is better than the other, and apparently you are falling for it. The vast majority of Congress, Democrats & Republicans alike, flat out suck and don't represent our interests ... only those who contributed substantially to their campaigns. You know why Democrats were in such a rush to shove Obamacare down our throats? Because they were doing trial lawyers and insurance companies a huge favor for their contributions, that's why. Wake up and quit being a slave to the two party system.

President Obama has not been able to muster support to pass a single budget during his time in office. His most recent budget was so poorly designed that it was defeated 99-0 in the Senate and 414-0 in the House. That is as bipartisan as you can get. Every Democrat, Independent, and Republican voted exactly the same way.

Both candidate and President-Elect Obama pledged to propose and get passed comprehensive immigration reform in his first year in office. In the four years since he's been elected, he hasn't even put forth a bill or a proposal for Congress to debate or discuss.

President Obama displays no understanding of Middle East history as you profess he does. Obama is the first U.S. president in the 55 years since the Six-Day War to state publicly that Israel should consider and negotiate a return to the borders that existed previously. Big mistake, Mr. President.

Finally, President Obama pledged to openly stage discussion and debate on every aspect of what became the Affordable Healthcare Act. He did nothing of the sort. He did not conduct or encourage public forums or town hall-style meetings to debate the pros and cons of the proposed plan.

For these reasons, I have proudly voted for Mitt Romney. While he may not be the perfect candidate (and who is?) he's a lot better than what we've had in office for the last four years. I want my hope and change and haven't seen it yet so I'm giving another guy a shot at the title.

Rational Our government (and nation) was not built on compromise but on principle. The explosive size of government is not a principle. By the way here is one statement Bkaer makes that is easily disproven. The states the Obama has actually reduced the growth of government. The 2009 budget was 2.9 trillion dollars. When Democrats added another $900 billion in 2009, they claimed it was Bush's budget. That became the new baseline for spending $3.8 trillion, and, yes, it hasn't grown much since then. But you can't increase the government that amount and claim fiscal responsibilty. That is a flat-out lie. Obama care will wind up bankrupting our country. Most Americans did not want a comprehensive healthcare overhaul, but it was passed with chicanery and backroom deals. We were told it would cost $900 billion, but the CBO alreadt has it up to 2.6 trillion. I could go on and on, but one thing IS clear Obama hasn't done anything for me, and what he has done TO my children is a disgrace. $16 trillion in debt.

Ugh....again with the "haters" comment. You zealots really need to get a new schtick.

Let's just address his misinformation on the auto industry bailout.....THE TAXPAYERS HAVE NOT BEEN PAID BACK! Of the $50 billion borrowed by GM, only $6.7 billion has been paid back in cash. Another portion was paid back with "unused" TARP funds that were quietly transferred to them. Yup...they repaid us with our own cash. Another portion was paid back in stocks...which the Treasury estimates we will lose at least $20 billion on. What a deal for us hard working folks, huh?

That's not even discussing the 1000's of dealers forced to close under Obama's restructuring which resulted in 10's of 1000's of people losing their jobs. The GM budget cuts which favored union employees, guaranteeing them no salary or benefit cuts while non-union workers lost up to up to 70% of their salaries and benefits. The $14 billion dollar tax credit OR the fact that they aren't paying any taxes now on their huge profits. Oh....and whispers are that GM may need another bailout next year.

I could go on, point by point but why bother?

Today I voted for love of country.....Romney/Ryan all the way!

If you think that Romney is much better than Obama, you clearly haven't been paying attention. He has no real platform, which is the first big problem. He favors tax hikes to spending cuts, which he made perfectly clear during his time as Governor. He thinks more government is the answer to improving health care, not less. Last but not least, he favors the same things as Obama: the tax code, the Federal Reserve, foreign policy, incarcerating people for victimless crimes, and so on. There are pretty good reasons why his approval numbers fell down to 34%, and he dropped out of the race for a second term as Governor once it became clear he had no chance of winning. Think about that, and the realization that you should have nominated the vastly superior Ron Paul or Gary Johnson will soon set in. Unfortunately, Obama's going to get re-elected, and it's all because of you people who forced such a weak candidate on us.

Dana: I'm no fan of Romney, but Obama knew what he was doing. He knew that this storm was the best thing that could have possibly happened for his presidential campaign. If he dedicated all of his time to relief efforts, he would have succeeded in swaying the people who were on the fence knowing that they had to choose between the lesser of two evils. That's all he was doing here, so don't give the man credit he clearly doesn't deserve. The true heroes are the unsung ones: the hard-working employees of the utility companies and others who worked long hours to try and restore some kind of normalcy, and the everyday people who have gone above and beyond to help those in need. I don't see Obama giving his salary or any money to assist those less fortunate than him even though he's a multi-millionaire. He's every bit as self-serving as any other politician, which you should have figured out by the way he shoved his health care law down our throats, put us into more debt to hook his favorite special interests up with our money, and went back on numerous campaign promises after he got elected (no individual mandate in health care reform, bringing troops home, closing Guantanamo, etc.). He's just another person who loves to be in power and to have his ego stroked.

I have been reading the comments to my post and love the kind hearted and constructive nature of them. Also, so respectful. They really for the most part are not worthy of a response. Those of you who are amateur grammarians and wonderful classroom instructors must feel good today. I do not have the time to react to each and every comment but here are a couple of responses....repaying back in stock has been estimated to be a money maker for the government and this has been articulated by the CBO. If you read more carefully, I said the pace of government growth has slowed, and this is not only true, but in direct response to those who say the President doubled the deficit. Presidents do not pass budgets, only the Legislative branch does with its purse controlling responsibility, but I am sure all of you Constitutionalists knew that already. Lastly, every tax reduction is also paid to us from our own taxes. Anyway. Enjoy the night. Let's see who picked the winner. My reasons for avoiding many posts on the Patch is the apparent one sided nature of the readers. Thanks for your energizing and spirited, albeit unfair, inaccurate and often silly comments. Later.

Why did the patch publish this elementary school book report? I would have rather read, "Why I want to be an astronaut." This article is full of conjecture and opinions. I like facts. Here is a great fact...the American Constitution is the longest lasting constitution in the world. It became law in 1789. It has been so successful because it is supple and can be amended to adapt to the times. The problem is that the scriptors of the Constitution didn't put in any provisions to prevent money grubbing, lazy, leeches from voting in Presidents that fund hand out programs on the backs of hard working Americans. It doesn't matter how malleable the Constitution is. There is no way to stop the hand outs that are labeled, "Paying their fair share." This is a slippery slope to Greece. No book report on the patch about why someone voted for a socialist would be complete without the mention of a hand out, a pocket full of rainbows and the insistence that everyone pay their fair share. Paying your fair share allows those who do little or nothing can continue to do so. As long as their are more people who leech than there are people who contribute to society, the government will perpetuate dependence. The author left off these comments and I didn't want this fairytale book report to have a fictional ending. The End.

I agree with "march". Michael Baker's essay would receive a poor grade even at the high school level. Guess that's why he's bloggin on the Patch!?!

No scandals? What is Fast and Furious? The blood of those agents is on the President's hands.
If Obama accomplished so much in 4 years, why are we in such a mess and facing a fiscal cliff? Eventually, blaming Bush might not be an acceptable answer even for those wearing blinders.

You are blinded by liberal ideology, Mike, and I fear that you influence your students with your misguided, albeit well-intentioned views. Mitt Romney is a man of integrity and intellect. Lies? I hope all the untruths and misdeeds of the Obama administration and campaign eventually come out. Then let's talk about Romney lies and the wonderful Mr. Obama. He has inflicted such damage on this country already. After his second term, we will never again be the great country we once were. At least, not in my lifetime.
I can now relate to Michelle Obama, but with a twist. For the first time in my adult life, I am ashamed of my country. And I cry for it.

First of all, I,m not blind. I can see quite well, only through a different lens than you do. You use the term "Liberal Ideology" and attach with a broad brush, an assumption about me that goes way beyond inaccurate. I voted for the President and that does not ground me in any one permamnent or inflexible ideology at all. You have no idea as to the experience, qualifications or content that I teach and I can tell you that you don't need to fear that I am bringing dangerous views into the classroom. I do not think it is ever appropriate that a teacher share his or her personal and poltical views with students. My job it to guide them to understand all sides of an issue and to make judgments for themselves. I am a bit perplexed that you would automatically assume I influence these kids in a jaded way. I do not, will not and have never done so. You can sleep tonight that the 160 students I daily see have not been radicalized. Your sarcasm about the President is also troubling. I am not sure I see this President as one who has shifted his positions in as dramatic a way as did his opponent, which is why he lost. I love this country and do not feel that it has been damaged by our President. I have not lost my rights. I am free to do what I want and travel where I want and say what I want. If you were to be fair, you would admit that Congress has been as much to blame as the President for a slower than desirable recovery. We are a great country. We will continue to be so.

Oh, c'mon Michael. Your piece is a total regurgitation of Barack Obama's campaign propaganda. OK, Osama Bin Laden is dead, and so is Ambassador Christopher Stevens. Barack Obama calls his opponent a flip-flopper, but Obama's changing positions are an "evolution", and you accept that? What a bunch of hooey. I, too, am extremely suspicious of teachers, who, by-and-large, are left-leaning.

Obama and Romney are both total frauds- sellouts to the globalist offshore banking cartel, that imploded our economy and is now reaping the rewards. (Goldman Sucks, Bank of America etc.) I voted for Gary Johnson with a clear choice, and the republicans are dead unless they can court the liberty vote. (They cheated Ron Paul)

No wonder education in our country continues sliding toward the 3rd world. It's obvious this author could never make it in the private sector. Tax takers. Many inaccuracies in his statements. No time to refute all. Supreme court justice Sonia Sotomayor is a racist. Her statements of ,"A Latina can make a better decision than a white male" as well as her ruling against the white New Haven firefighters who outscored blacks on promotional exams prove this. Ironically her ruling was thrown out by the Supreme court during her conformation. Eric Holder is another racist. I wonder if the Black Panther's were again out in Philly with their billy clubs to intimidate white voters. They only got Bin Laden after water boarding KSM, a technique Barrack Hussein was against. No waterboarding no Bin Laden. But that was Bill Clinton's fault wasnn' it? Bin laden was a hard target 3 separate times but Bill refused to give the order. Maybe 9/11 never happens? Guess Willy was busy fighting off his rape accusations by 3 women. A rapist, disbarred, impeached, felon was Obama's biggest campaigner. Too bad Teddy died. You could add a murderer to the list of supporters. Illegal immigrants are illegal, as are their children and are a drain on healthcare and education. Why did Obama use executive order and not go through Congress? We all know his next step is to grant amnesty to all 15 million illegals and that's the end of our country. Which is what he wants. Dreams of his father.

Wow! You are right to the point. And absolutely correct.
The only accomplishment the far right religious republicans can cite for Dubya is the number of our soldiers killed in two failed wars.
Those poor right wingers cannot see to understand Romney was seen as son of Dubya. That is the main reason they got shellacked in the election.

Yes, compared to Obama with negative jobs, Criminal Bill Clinton also grew the national debt by 40%. That's right. The National debt increased by 40% under slick willie!
I seem to recall the GOP in charge of Congress during most of that time.

Coincidence or was Mr. Guilty of Perjury King?

you gotta love guys like bluebeam who say people who think they are better off now than in 2009 are smoking crack. when bush left office with a 19 % approval rating our economy was in free fall from the lack of regulation republicans wanted. we had bin laden still running things at al queda, gm was going under and there were 500,000 less manufacturing jobs in this country. romney is a puppet of the koch bros and sheldon addelson for whom of which he kissed their rings. today after getting hit by a second storm of the century nitwits like bluebeam and jarhead are still talking about al gore's house instead of science. is it any wonder ? the head of the science committee was a republican who said theres nothing we can do about climate change because god is in control of that. the same way republicans like todd akin, paul ryan and richard muordock said during rape a woman's uterus releases anti rape ninjas. we will bring this country back to the glory days of clinton despite the interference from those like paul di bartolo, john jay and bluebeam.

Shameful that 50% of our people are such blatant freeloaders. Obama has done nothing for those that wish to better themselves. Either pull the wagon or get in it, sadly most are too lazy and self entitled to help. What is shameless about Obama, who has more names than Barack Obama/ Barry Soetoro, and few other names only known to the IRS and Sealed Obama Records, is that he used Saul Alinsky's RULES FOR RADICALS to accuse his Opponents of what he and the Democrats do... and GOT AWAY WITH IT! We are not even sure if Obama really won the election because the voting machines seem to be full of anomalies of votes being changed from Romney to Obama, let alone only dead people vote for Democrats in Philly, as reports of NO VOTES for Romney appear in at least 19 Philly voting districts? I think ... there needs to be a REEDUCATION to many Democrats...

Question... how may executive orders has Obama written and what is in them? I may not be able to quote them from memory, but I know WHERE TO FIND THAT INFORMATION! That is the point... Democrats not only don't care where the information is... but they take nearly everything said by Obama/ Dems as truthful, but if you look up the entire set of facts... whoa... wait a minute.. it is never nearly as true as the dem's spin pretend it is, eh?

Well, Obama is elected, and unless an act of God finds some reason to invalidate the 2012 election, we are stuck with four more years of Poverty, and increasing taxes as Welfare is handed out instead of JOBS. Just the fact that Unemployment is really above 14% if you add in people left out of Unemployement... Obama now steers America towards the liberal fantasy of a Socialist Utopia.

Mr. Baker, just to help you out with your problems...

If you count nicknames, such as Barry for Barack or other last names, then I guess we have a lot of American presidents with multiple names. Reagan went by Ron, Ronald, Ronnie, and Dutch. Then there are presidents such as Bill Clinton, adopted by his step-father and whose birth name was William Jefferson Blythe III.

Executive Orders? George W, Bush (2001-2009) - total 291, Barack Obama (2009-2012) - total 140. Just about even. [BTW, did you think that finding that information was difficult? How do you spin a number?]

As for the voting districts with no Romney votes? Yes. Here is the discussion...http://www.politifact.com/ohio/statements/2012/nov/21/chain-email/emails-blog-posts-claim-mitt-romney-got-zero-votes/

Interesting: The voting machine that changed Obama votes to Romney votes...

Well Mr. Bruce Baker, here are just a few of the many things that Democrats -- as well as all other objective, sensible people -- have not taken as truthful coming from the mouths of Republican standard bearers:

1. Ohio automakers plan on outsourcing manufacturing jobs to China (even in the absence of any evidence and denied by the automakers themselves).

2. "Legitimately" raped women have ways of "shutting down" getting pregnant (even if lacking in all evidence and support from the medical community).

3. Cutting taxes for the wealthiest Americans will certainly improve the economy (even if found to be flatly wrong by recent studies performed by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service).

4. The earth is not getting warmer over the past century (even though it has been found to be so by every major scientific organization in the United States considering the issue).

5. The earth is only a few thousand years old and evolution is an anti-religion hoax (even though neither statement is endorsed by any reputable, scientific organization).

6. The pre-election, scientific polls saying Mitt Romney would almost certainly lose the election -- including most battleground states -- were clearly erroneous, partisan shams planted by the Democrats.

Not part of sour grape crowd. The President won, “fair and square", as they say. Everyone better hope and pray that he’s as good a President as he says he will be.

The political discourse, however, will continue and it must. As a fiscal conservative, I was very disappointed that the President won reelection. His campaign deflected all the discussion of our spiraling out of control entitlement programs and deficit spending. He never once explained to the American people how he plans to get our fiscal house in order, but rather only demagogue his opponent incessantly. Apparently, from the results, the masses believe that “…higher taxes on the rich; more spending on education, roads and bridges and Obamacare”will grow the economy. What a crock….does ANY Economist support this notion? No. Say what you will,Romney had a credible and, in my view, responsible plan to reduce the debt. Obama did not.

Well, the American people have spoken and America is going to get exactly what it deserves, MORE deficit spending; MORE tax dollars flowing to the geniuses in Washington DC to redistribute wealth. Growth killing policies that do nothing to reduce unemployment, but further line the pockets of DC bureaucrats. I’m not part of the sour grape crowd. I’m in the “worried as hell” crowd that Obama’s policies put this nation on a path to fiscal self-destruction ala Greece. He’s shown me absolutely nothing to believe otherwise. I hope I’m wrong….

I stand corrected, one lone economist. The same Nobel winner that felt we should have doubled down on Stimulus 3....which was so sucessful. He's been widely debunked for his "solutions" to the economy. But I'll admit it, he's devout tax and spend liberal economist that still believes this....well, tax and spend notion that provides growth to lower unemployment. Now that the election is over, let's see if another 4 years of tax & spend policies bring about the prosperity that the President keeps saying we'll have. It's NEVER worked before, and it won't work now.....talk to you in four years.

Mister B

10:46 pm on Monday, November 26, 2012

Steve, let's not overlook the fact that Krugman is a self-proclaimed liberal who would rather we put all the money into one pot and hand it out equally to everyone regardless of the contributions people make to society. He's a strong critic of the Obama administration for not going far enough with stimulus packages as he believes there is no way for our society to outspend its means. I'd propose that Krugman is the most followed because his positions are so extreme that it gives all other rational-thinking economists a feel for how far they can argue something without being viewed as "going too far." Krugman works exclusively in theory and not real world application of his knowledge. His views are so extreme that nobody in a position of power accepts them as possibilities. Even Obama's economic team (including the clueless Tim Geithner) haven't dared come close to implementing Krugman's views because they are so left field.

Wrong again, Mr. Will (as well as Mister B, who severely mischaracterizes Krugman's economic views and beliefs). It's Paul Krugman who has done all the debunking, which is why he won the 2008 Nobel Prize in economics, as well as the prestigious John Bates Clark Medal from the American Economic Association (the leading society for academic and practicing economists, who roundly acknowledged the worth of their colleague Krugman and his views). Krugman is also widely considered to be the most popular and widely followed economist now living. (Although he has indeed earned the enmity of many Republicans and the purveyors of their "fairy dust" economics.) And yes, who would deny -- Republican or Democrat, including the president -- that the Obama administration could be doing better on the economic front, which is what Krugman urges (demonstrating that his economics transcends mere politics).
