Lt. Governor upholds administrative law judge's recommendation
A challenge from two men from Toms River and Wall seeking to remove President Obama's name from New Jersey's upcoming primary ballot has failed. Mario Apuzzo, the attorney representing New Jersey residents Nick Purpura and Ted Moran, said Deputy Director and Administrative Law Judge Jeff Masin recommened against the ballot challenge following a more than three-hour hearing earlier this week. Lt. Gov. and Secretary of State Kim Guadagno upheld the decision earlier this week. The decision, delivered to Apuzzo via email, was not based on the issues presented in the challenge, namely that Obama is not a natural born citizen of the United States and that a birth certificate released by the White House last April is fraudulent, but rather on a …

Two men who are Monmouth and Ocean county residents are challenging President Barack Obama's placement on the state's primary ballot.
Two men who are Monmouth and Ocean county residents are challenging President Barack Obama's place on the state's primary ballot, according to the Bayshore Tea Party Group. Nick Purpura of Wall Township has filed a challenge, along with Ocean County resident Ted Moran, alleging that Obama has never shown adequate proof that he was born in the United States - despite the release of a longform birth certificate by the White House in April of 2011. They also claim that his father was never a citizen of the United States, meaning Obama is not a natural born citizen, at least according to their interpretation of the Constitution. The challenge will be heard by an administrative law judge Tuesday at the Administrative Law Offices in Quakerbridge…

Democrat challenging longtime Sheriff William L. Polhemus in race for three-year term.
The Democratic candidate running for Ocean County sheriff this year says issues, not age, will be the focus of his campaign. George "Bob" Armstrong, 68, is challenging 83-year-old William L. Polhemus for the three-year sheriff's term in November. He unveiled his platform on the steps of the Ocean County Courthouse Monday afternoon. He doesn't plan to make an issue out of Polhemus' age. "That's up to the voters to decide," Armstrong said in an interview this morning. "Even if he was only 60 years old, it's been way too long," he added. "It's just outrageous for one person to be there for 27 years." Armstrong said his 40-year career in law enforcement will benefit the Sheriff's Department and the residents of Ocean County. He has served as a…
DePaola is one of four candidates running in uncontested primaries
Point Borough Republican Council Member Mitch Remig is not running for re-election, but Republican Council Member Antoinette DePaola will seek another term. The deadline to file to run in the June 5 primary for the two, three-year council seats was 4 p.m. Monday. William Borowsky, owner of Nature's Reward fresh produce store on Bridge Avenue, near the Stop and Shop shopping plaza, is running as a Republican with DePaola. Borowsky, who lives on Richmond Avenue South, has been a longtime, strong supporter of the Republican party and has often posted Republican campaign signs outside his business. The Democrats who filed are James McClure, Fay Court, and Salvatore Martino, Barnegat Boulevard. With two candidates running in each primary, the …

Sharon Cadalzo. Barry Moffett, George Loder, Stephen Reid and Andy Cortes filed to run
Democrat Tim Lurie, who ran for mayor last year, until he wasn't, is not running for re-election to Point Beach Borough Council, but Democrat Sharon Cadalzo is running, according to two officials in the local Democratic party. Early Monday evening, Lurie confirmed he is not running, saying he needs to focus more on his professional career as a partner with DW Smith, an engineering firm. However, Lurie, a Gowdy Avenue resident, has been working there for years. So what changed? "Nothing changed," he said. "It's just time for me to move on and deal with my professional career. I've served three terms. I've had the pleasure of serving under three mayors. It's time for someone else to have a turn." He said the amount of time spent on council …

Republican organization picks incumbents Little and Bartlett to run for re-election to freeholder board
One more time. Eighty-three-year-old longtime Ocean County Sheriff William L. Polhemus wanted to run for another term and the Ocean County Republican Organization granted his wish last week. "The sheriff to my knowledge has been running a good operation over there," Ocean County Republican Chairman George R. Gilmore said today. "The sheriff has said that he wants to run." When asked if he thought Polhemus was up to another term, Gilmore replied "I see no impediment to his running and winning." Polhemus has served as Ocean County Sheriff since 1985. Prior to that, he was police chief of the Seaside Heights Police Department and served 35 years in the department. He will be challenged by Democrat George "Bob" Armstrong, 68, whose career in …

Democrat candidate for Freeholder says 2012 campaign already begun
The dust from this year's election has settled. Or has it? Democrat challenger Michele Rosen's bid for longtime Freeholder Joseph Vicari's seat was unsuccessful, but after the results came in Tuesday, she pledged to be back for 2012. "Next year's campaign starts now," Rosen said at the county Democrats' party at The Tuscan House in Toms River. In 2012, Freeholders John Bartlett's and Gerry Little's respective terms expire. Vicari easily fended off Rosen's challenge by capturing more than 65 percent of the vote, with 67,880 votes to Rosen's 35,961 tallies. Rosen regularly attended Freeholder and county Board of Health meetings, and during public comment sessions would raise questions on spending and contracts, with officials pointing out …

Mayor and Democratic councilman says they believe John R. Wisniewski will work with them
The election results were not the first preference for Point Borough Mayor William Schroeder, who had hoped he and the Democratic council members could maintain their narrow majority of 4 to 3, which they've only had since Jan. 2. However, Schroeder released a statement Wednesday saying that he had a post-election Tuesday night talk with GOP councilman-elect John R. Wisniewski that makes him optimistic that all council members, of both parties, are going to work for the greater good of the town. "While some may see the results as a defeat, we all win," Schroeder wrote in an email. "The win is huge as the re-election of Chris Leitner is an event of great success. The fact that Chris won is a testament to his dedication and his ability to …
