Kimball Medical Center Earns “Top Performer on Key Quality Measures®” Recognition from The Joint Commission

Kimball Medical Center, a Barnabas Health facility, was recently named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in America.

Kimball – one of 1,099 hospitals in the U.S. and one of fewer than 30 hospitals in New Jersey earning the Top Performer distinction – was recognized for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for four measure sets: acute myocardial infarction (AMI), heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care improvement project.

“This recognition is a testament to Kimball’s exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes to improve patient care,” said Dottie Perez, Administrative Director of Quality and Accreditation, Kimball Medical Center. “Our patients should feel comfort in knowing we practice proven, effective measures to ensure they receive the best care possible.”

As a Top Performer hospital, Kimball was required to achieve a cumulative performance of at least 95 percent for all reported accountability measures, among other factors. A 95 percent score indicates that a hospital provided an evidence-based practice 95 times out of 100 opportunities to provide the practice. Each accountability measure represents an evidence-based practice – for example, giving aspirin at arrival for heart attack patients. The ratings are based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2012 calendar year.

“Kimball Medical Center and all the Top Performer hospitals have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to quality improvement and they should be proud of their achievement,” says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president and chief executive officer, The Joint Commission.

“Safe, effective care is of the upmost importance at Kimball Medical Center. This distinction recognizes our commitment to continually improving our processes in order to achieve positive patient outcomes,” said Michael Mimoso, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer, Kimball Medical Center.

In addition to being included in The Joint Commission’s annual report, Kimball will be recognized on The Joint Commission’s Quality Check website (www.qualitycheck.org).
