Tropical Storm Andrea's Heavy Rain May Cause Coastal Flooding Friday

A threat of river flooding Saturday into Sunday

"Tropical Storm Andrea" is likely to let loose two to four inches of rain in the Jersey Shore region on Friday into Saturday morning, according to the latest update from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Mount Holly.

"Andrea" may no longer be a "tropical storm" when it moves into the Jersey Shore region, according to the latest briefing from the NWS (see attachment). But widespread rainfall of two to four inches is expected, which is expected to produce flash flooding as well as cause potential river flooding, the 10:30 a.m.  briefing states.

a Point Borough resident and "local weatherman" known for analyzing numerous sources of weather data and localizing it for the Point area (as well as other regions), reported on his Facebook page at 9:45 a.m. Thursday that today a mix of sun and clouds is expected followed by some rain moving in Thursday night in the greater Point area.

"This is from an approaching front from the west, not from Tropical Storm Andrea," Burger noted.

On Friday, Burger reports, humidity and rain with a few thunderstorms are expected.

"On Friday night, there will be heavy rains and some thunderstorms and winds could gust to 30 mph or more as the remnants from Tropical Storm Andrea move through the area," Burger reports. "This is a quick moving system and should be out by early Saturday. Things will clear up later on Saturday. Then on Sunday, sun and some clouds humid and 80."
