Introducing the Jersey Shore Express!

To kick off summer and draw attention to Jersey beaches, NJ Transit is launching the Shore Express, a weekend and holiday express train service to the shore.

With this new service, roughly 25 minutes of travel time is expected to be taken off of the trip from New York to stations like Point Pleasant, Belmar and Manasquan, reports the Star News Group.

Trains will leave from Penn Station in New York twice in the morning, at 7:52 a.m. and 10:01 a.m.

Stops will be made at Secaucus Junction, Newark Penn Station, Elizabeth, Rahway, Aberdeen Matawan, Red Bank, Long Branch, Asbury Park, Bradley Beach, Belmar, Spring Lake, Manasquan, Point Pleasant Beach and Bay Head, “without having to change trains in Long Branch.”

Return trip trains will leave from the Bay Head station, making the same stops, at 4:54 pm and 6:54 pm.

Seating is limited and participants are asked to purchase beach package tickets. These tickets can be purchased at ticket vending machines by selecting "Special Promotions" and then "Beach Package." They can also be purchased at any ticket office but not on board the train.

Service will continue through September 1 and comes as a supplement to shore rail service already operating.

According to the  Star News Group, NJ Transit will also launch four new trains. Two will be predominantly for beach travel while the other two will run in the early morning and late night hours. These trains are, “dual-powered locomotives to provide a one-seat ride.”
