Point Pleasant Borough Councilman Asks for Sponsors for American Diabetes Association Biking Fundraiser

Councilman Chris Leitner asking for participants and sponsors to help fund work to fight diabetes

A Point Pleasant Borough councilman is asking the public to join him on a bicycle ride or to sponsor his efforts in raising money for the American Diabetes Association.

Councilman Chris Leitner is asking area residents to join his biking team, or to sponsor him, in the Tour de Cure Friends and Family fundraiser on June 12 in Princeton to help him reach his goal of raising $2,000.

Leitner is biking a 62-mile route, although there is also a 30-mile route and other options available.

The American Diabetes Association works towards preventing and curing diabetes, in addition to providing community-based educational programs and protecting the rights of people with diabetes.

Diabetes is a condition in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin, a hormone needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy.

About 24 million Americans are living with diabetes and, if current trends continue, one in three children will have the disease in the near future, according to the American Diabetes Association web site.
