Ponies, Pumpkin Picking and Pig Races at Farm in Lacey

Corn maze, hayrides and live music also at Argos Farm on Lacey Road

Pumpkin picking, hay rides, pony rides and pig races are among the autumn offerings at Argos Farm in the Forked River section of Lacey Township.

Owned by Spyro and Angela Martin, the 97-acre facility is at 1250 Lacey Rd., one mile west of Exit 74 on the Garden State Parkway, and is in its second generation of family-run ownership.

Former proprietors George and Aphrodite Mackres named the facility after their hometown in Greece in 1986.

After the events of Sept. 11, 2001, Spyro and Angela Martin decided to leave their respective careers of Wall Street finance and public school education to purchase Argos Farm and focus on providing clean and safe “agri-tainment” to family audiences in the area.

“We’ve had great success with our haunted cornfield and mayhem maze,” Martin said. “We also offer deals for class trips, pumpkin parties, food, face-painting and a bluegrass band comes to perform.”

Just in time for the Halloween season, pumpkin picking is another attraction at Argos Farm held on weekends through Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on weekdays from Oct. 4 through Oct. 28 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Pumpkins are $0.55 per pound at the farm.

Martin also discussed the country store at Argos Farm, where in the future, the owners hope to sell goat’s milk, fudge, ice cream and soap. “But that’s in the future,” Martin said.

Martin added that Argos Farm is “dedicated to the little ones”, since Martin and her husband have two children of their own and recognize the importance of good, clean family fun.

Another anticipated feature of the farm is the Hillbilly Horrors Mayhem Maze, open from Oct. 1 to Oct. 29 on Friday and Saturday nights from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., with a special opening on Sunday night, Oct. 9 at those same hours.

The admission price of $15 covers two haunted attractions.

Those with an existing heart condition, or who are pregnant, epileptic or have other serious medical issues are strongly advised not to enter the maze. Children under the age of 12 are also not recommended to enter the maze.
