'Pro-Swastika' Group Flying Banners Over N.J. Beaches
Group says they want to 'reclaim' swastika as positive symbol
It's a shocking symbol that commonly represents feelings of hatred, intolerance and the deaths of millions of people – but some disagree, and they're bringing their message to the skies above New Jersey's beaches.
A religious group, partially based on extraterrestrials known as the Raelians, has purchased banner plane ads flying the Swastika symbol over Jersey Shore beaches in order to – as they say – restore its image to one of positivity, Chasing New Jersey reported this week.
The group says the Swastika was not seen as a negative symbol before Adolf Hitler used it during the Holocaust and World War II.
The banner ad was purchased for $2,000 during what the Raelians call "swastika rehabilitation week," the television news show reported.
It is not the first time the group has used banner ads over beaches to get their message out. Previously, the banner have flown over Long Beach Island.
