Seal on Bay Head Beach on Wed.

Seal near Bridge Avenue jetty

A seal was spotted on a Bay Head beach and captured in this video and photo at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Bay Head Patrolman Zachary Keller said he responded to the scene at about 2 or 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and that the seal did not appear to be injured.

"He looked like he was just resting," Keller said.

The Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine said they received multiple phone calls about the seal on Wednesday.

What NOT to do when you encounter a seal on the beach: 1. Get close 2. Whistle and call out to it or distress it in any other way (harrassment)

Sheila Dean is one of two top officials with the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine. Another official there has informed me that getting this close to a seal is a violation of federal law and also very dangerous for the seal and the person approaching it. So, please, to our readers, keep your distance and call the Marine Mammal Stranding Center if you see a seal (yes, I did call before posting this story and they said they had received multiple calls about this seal, which was not injured and went back into the water on its own).
