Staten Island Ferry Sails Down Ocean County's Shoreline

Famous ferry boat catches the eye of beachgoers en route to Virginia

It was slightly out of eye-shot for most beachgoers along the Jersey Shore on Monday afternoon, but Patch's zoom lens caught up with a Staten Island Ferry boat as it was being towed off Surf City's beachfront.

A massive tug boat pulled the even more massive ferry boat as beachgoers tried to confirm whether the vessel, with its tell-tale orange paint, was actually the famous ferry.

Indeed, it was, said a New York City Department of Transportation spokesman, who told Patch the ferry is on its way to Virginia for routine dry-docking and maintenance.
