UPDATE: Volunteers Needed to Set Point Boro's Osprey Tower Straight

Normally, volunteers devote their time to the Forsythe Refuge in southern Ocean County, but the refuge is closed because of the federal government shutdown

Nestled away in a beautiful marsh area of Point Pleasant Boro, close to the Brick Township border, sits the Leaning Tower of Osprey.

The tower, which sits behind several homes at the end of Evergreen Lane and Seagull Terrace, is leaning precariously after being pummeled by rain and other conditions this summer.

It had been placed in its current spot, a few feet from its original location, by a helpful bulkheader after Sandy knocked it over completely last year, according to August Villanova, whose home backs up to the tower (Hear him in the video above explain how the osprey returned this year).

But this year's weather has taken its toll on the tower, and it is falling over, ever so slightly, again.

That is where Ben Wurst, and the Conserve Wildlife of New Jersey area come in.

The nonprofit organization is looking for 10 volunteers to head out on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m. to help relocate, the nest.

Wurst said he would normally devote his time to the Forsythe Refuge in southern Ocean County, but the federal government - as a result of the budget stalemate - has shut it down.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the East end of Seagull Terrace in Point Pleasant Boro.

All tools will be provided, including a boat to transport volunteers from the end of Seagull Terrace to the marsh, and to use to move the platform. Volunteers are asked to dress accordingly and bring knee/hip boots or waders to wear. Work gloves would also be something volunteers should bring. Heavy rain will cancel.
