Jenkinson's Rides and Farrell's Re-open this Weekend

Two more signs of "Point Beach Back in Business"

Jenkinson's rides are re-opening today on the boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach and Farrell's Stout and Steak, 401 Broadway, is having its grand re-opening weekend.

Both local businesses were hard hit by Superstorm Sandy, have undergone extensive renovations and are now coming alive in time for the beginning of spring and the promise of summer.

The businesses join the ranks of many on Ocean Avenue, Broadway and the downtown area of Arnold and Bay avenues that are open and hoping the summer helps make up for what Sandy's wrath left behind.

"We're letting people know that Point Pleasant Beach is open for business and ready for the summer," said Councilman Michael Corbally, liaison to the Point Pleasant Beach Chamber of Commerce, at a recent council meeting. He said all motels and hotels in the resort town are opening for the summer.

With boardwalk repair work making progress, the expectation is that the center, commercial section of the boardwalk will be fixed by Easter weekend, and that when Memorial Day weekend arrives, visitors will be able to walk from end to end.

At Jenkinson's, the annual tradition of the Easter egg hunt returns tomorrow and the 2 for 1 ticket ride sale is Easter weekend, as usual. You can buy them in person or online. The Easter Parade will return on Easter Sunday on March 31.

The club and restaurant portions of Jenkinson's had already re-opened. For more information, see the Jenkinson's website.

Farrell's opened for St. Patrick's Day, but began having more of an official grand-reopening on Thursday, gearing up for this weekend.

Owner Mark Farrell wrote the following email about their travails with Sandy:

"Hurricane Sandy flooded our business with 2.5 feet of water throughout the building. We renovated the entire building. We are looking better than ever.

"We still haven't settled with our insurance company so the project was funded through the business and loans. I just found out that I am only getting one week's lost business from insurance instead of the 22 weeks we were closed.

"We are very happy to be able to open again and bring some life back to the restaurant. We have changed our menus, décor, nightly specials and more. We look forward to getting back open."

which has already been cleaned out and partially renovated, is undertaking fundraising efforts to help raise money to re-open. That includes a 24 hour fish-a-thon on April 4 and 5 (see attached PDF).

Just a few doors down, extensive renovations have been underway at the Inlet Apartments, which were among the inlet-facing businesses belted by Sandy.

James Ward of Ward Realty wrote in Patch Comments, "The apartments, which remained largely unchanged for more than 60 years, sold after the storm and shall be re-introduced to our area as "Inlet Breeze" this May! Eight cozy, but very high end units overlooking the inlet and ocean will be available for three-night to weekly get-a-ways."
