Third Barnegat Bay Blitz Clean-Up in Point Boro is Thursday

On October 18th, community members, students, businesses and government employees will participate in the 3rd Barnegat Bay Blitz cleanup.

On Thursday, October 18th, community members, students, businesses and local government employees will participate in the third Barnegat Bay Blitz across all 37 municipalities of the Barnegat Bay, including Point Pleasant Borough.

The watershed wide clean-up effort is led by DEP in partnership with New Jersey Clean Communities Council as part of the Governor's ten-point action plan to restore the health and foster a greater appreciation of the Barnegat Bay.

In Point Pleasant Borough, we will be meeting at Community Park on Bridge Avenue at the corner of Beaver Dam Road between 9:15 and 9:30 AM to distribute supplies and divide into groups to conquer and clean various sections of the Borough. Members of the community that are available to assist are encouraged to join us.

Reminder, while the weather forecast looks decent, this is a rain or shine event so dress appropriately. We will have gloves for volunteers but you may want to bring your own. Please wear long pants and boots or shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. A few of the areas targeted for clean-up are along the water in the marsh where trash collects. These areas tend to be very muddy and wet even in good weather.

During the May 2012 Blitz, over 100 students from the Point Pleasant School District helped DEP employees and other volunteers collected over 40 bags of trash and recyclables and fill a small dumpster with construction debris across Point Pleasant Borough.

DEP Commissioner Bob Martin is scheduled to be at Beaver Dam Park, Bridge Avenue, Point Borough, at 11 a.m. to help the volunteers, as one of his many stops in different locations on the Jersey Shore.

Next week volunteers will be focused on continuing with the success of the previous clean-up effort. Anyone interested in participating should plan to meet at the Community Park on Bridge Avenue at the corner of Beaver Dam Road for a 9:30 AM start time on October 18.
