Barnegat Bay Blitz - A Watershed-Wide Cleanup!
The Barnegat Bay Blitz is watershed-wide cleanup to demonstrate the DEP's commitment to restoring the health of the bay. Meet at Community Park in Point Pleasant at 8:30 a.m. Wed., May 9.
My wife, Kim, and I often take a little time out of our lives to do things that help people out, improve the quality of life of those around us or just makes someone's day a little better and little brighter.
We are fortunate enough to have a group of family, friends and neighbors that care for and support us and giving back is one way we like to thank them.
I am very excited to be a part of such a large scale event on Wednesday, May 9, that will definitely improve the quality of life of those around us and can make someone's day a little better:

Barnegat Bay Blitz - A Watershed-Wide Cleanup!
The Barnegat Bay Blitz is a significant demonstration of the state Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP's) commitment to restoring the health of the bay, for which a comprehensive ten-point action plan was announced on December 9th, 2010.

The first Blitz took place on October 18th, 2011, when volunteers from DEP, including senior management, plus dozens of schools, senior citizens, environmentalists, businesses, and even military personnel braved rainy weather, fanning out to marshlands, creeks, marinas and the bay itself to clean up trash and debris as part of the first Blitz.
This second round is shaping up nicely. At this point, we have a good group of DEP volunteers, a large group of students from the Borough school system and their supervisors as well as other volunteers.
But we are still accepting volunteers because this isn't a small task; luckily, we've been fortunate enough to have had a few local clean-ups to help put a dent in this.
Point Pleasant Borough volunteers will be meeting on Wednesday at the Community Park on Bridge Avenue at the corner of Beaver Dam Road starting at 8:30 AM for a 9 AM start time.
This will provide an opportunity to distribute supplies and split into groups to address the various site locations, such as the Slade Dale Sanctuary, Northwest Drive salt marsh, the DEP fishing access area (along the canal), Mount Street and Canal Street (along the canal), as well as other spots.
There will be gloves for everyone to use, but feel free to bring your own.
Please wear long pants, boots (or old sneakers), dress in layers and be prepared because this is a rain or shine event.

I hope some of you can help make the second Barnegat Bay Blitz better than the first!
As an Environmental Specialist 3 at the DEP 's Bureau of Coastal Engineering in Toms River, Chris Constantino will be one of the DEP staff members helping out with the clean-up effort on Wednesday.
