UPDATE: Point Beach Orders Mandatory Evacuations

All Point Pleasant Beach residents who live east of the railroad tracks or within 500 feet of the Manasquan River have been ordered to evacuate immediately, according to the borough's Office of Emergency Management.

"The evacuations should begin immediately and must be completed by 2 p.m. on Saturday," according to a press release. Those residents who live east of the railroad tracks also must move their vehicles west of the railroad tracks, the release said.

Residents who live west of the railroad tracks still are being urged to evacuate voluntarily, it noted.

Residents who have not yet evacuated and who need assistance should contact Point Pleasant Beach police, Det. Patrick Petruzziello said.

Those hoping to go into the town to watch the storm are being told to stay away.

"You will not be permitted (to storm watch)," the release noted. Violators will be subject to arrest, officials said.

"In addition, all liquor sales, retail and consumption will be suspended within the borough," the release said. The suspension runs from noon Saturday to 2 a.m. on Monday, the officials said.

Further updates will be broadcast on 1630 AM, radio station WQFG844, owned and operated by the Point Pleasant Beach Office of Emergency Management. Mantoloking and Bay Head residents may find the updates useful as well, said Kyle Grace, the borough's emergency management coordinator.
