Local Area Escapes Wrath of Last Night’s Storm, Say Officials

Point Pleasant and Point Pleasant Beach endure storm with little disturbance

Though the dark skies put on quite a display of thunder, lightning and rain last night, Point Pleasant and Point Pleasant Beach were fortunate to avoid the pitfalls that usually come with storms of that ferocity.

“To my knowledge, there was little or no damage,” said Point Pleasant Beach’s Public Works Chief John Trout. “It was fortunate the way the storm broke up, it seemed to skip over us.”

Michael Pizzi of Point Pleasant’s Public Works Department concurred.

“There were no problems that I was aware of, I didn’t hear about anything,” he said.

Officer Brian Larrison of the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department commented that the extent of calls received was a downed cable wire in the area of West Laurel and Cramer Avenues, but that issue was not even storm-related.

“We managed to escape with very few issues, nothing more than wind and rain,” said Larrison.

Captain Richard Larsen of the Point Pleasant Police Department was unavailable for comment.

Jerry Meaney, Captain of the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad said that “surprisingly”, the organization did not receive any EMS calls due to last night’s storm.

“From the looks of it, it almost seems like the storm went around us. I don’t know why, but these storms seem to ride the river and then head out. I didn’t hear of anything major last night,” said Meaney.

Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L), a major supplier of electricity to the region, noted that there were “scattered” outages in the local area due to last night’s storm, but that no major ones had occurred.

“It was a crazy storm, let’s put it that way,” said Maria Sessa of JCP&L. “Our systems did not show any significant loss of power in the area, due to the storm.”
