Gov. Chris Christie announced Sunday that Ocean County has been declared a major disaster area.
All 21 New Jersey counties are now eligible for relief from FEMA.
"Eligibility allows New Jerseyans to apply for different types of assistance, including temporary housing, repair, replacement or other needs such as Disaster Unemployment Assistance, and Small Business Administration disaster loans," according to a release from Christie.
Christie previously requested assistance for all 21 New Jersey counties, but damage assessments needed to be concluded before individual assistance could be granted to the remaining counties of Burlington, Hudson, Mercer, Ocean and Union, according to the governor's office.
Survivors of Hurricane Irene who suffered damage should apply for disaster assistance, according to a Christie release.
His office has suggested that those affected should register by phone at 800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 800-462-7585. Or anyone can register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.
Those affected can also apply through a web-enabled mobile device or smartphone by visiting .www.fema.gov and following the link to “apply online for federal assistance.”
