Point Beach Council to Pick One of Three Democrats to Replace Corbally

Temporary replacement or a different candidate will run in November

The Point Beach Democrats will pick three names as possible replacements for resigning Councilman Michael Corbally.

And council members will vote for one of the three to fill Corbally's unexpired term which ends in December.

The Point Beach Council has scheduled a special meeting for 7 p.m. Tuesday to discuss parking and other issues.

Corbally is not only resigning from council immediately, he is also withdrawing from running for reelection to his three-year council seat. If he had stayed in the race and won this November, he would have been sworn in at the organization meeting in January 2014.

Patch left voice mail messages for Tom Davis, Corbally's running mate, and John Morrongiello, the Democratic Club president, but had not heard back by late Thursday night. Davis had run unsuccessfully last year as an Independent candidate.

Sharon Cadalzo and Barry Moffett ran unsuccessfully last year as Democrats for two council seats, beaten by Republicans Andy Cortes and Stephen Reid.

Corbally announced in a letter to Mayor Vincent Barrella and Municipal Clerk Maryann Ellsworth early Thursday afternoon that he is resigning, expressing frustration with Judge Vincent Grasso's decision that Corbally had a conflict of interest when he voted for the overnight parking plan in place this summer in District 4 and part of District 3 (see stories on home page for full text of Corbally's letter and separate story with full text of Grasso's decision).
