Sculptor Begins Teardown Of Sandy Castle, Starts Work On Next Record Attempt

The summer isn't even officially over, but Ed Jarrett has his mind on the holidays.

The sculptor this week began tearing down the Sandy castle on Jenkinson's beach in Poont Pleasant Beach, and will use the sand from that castle to build a Halloween- and holiday-themed castle.

Jarrett hopes that the holiday themed castle will be a recordbreaker.

His first attempt at a record with the Sandy castle fell short as vibrations from the wood pilings for the foundation of the boardwalk caused stress fractures in his work.

But in an interview this week Jarrett said his second attempt may be the charm.

He plans to have the second castle built by October 29, when Sandy careened into Jersey shore. He said it will feature a haunted castle as well as a Christmas tree and other holiday themes.

Donations are being accepted from those visiting the castle, and those donations will benefit Hometown Heroes, which is pledged to use those funds to help those impacted by Sandy.
