UPDATE: Bridge Avenue And Route 88 Bridges Will Be Usable During Hurricane Irene

New Jersey and Point Pleasant Boro officials choose to leave possible evacuation routes open during storm

The Route 88 and Bridge Avenue bridges that span over the Point Pleasant Canal will remain open throughout the course of Hurricane Irene, officials said.

Point Boro officials sought to dispel rumors that the state and the town would close the bridges.

The Route 88 bridge was built nearly 30 years ago, replacing a much lower bridge that was in a state of disrepair. The Bridge Avenue span - also known as the Lovelandtown Bridge - was built in 1971.
