UPDATE: Point Beach Wins First State Football Championship

The final score in the Central Jersey Group I final was 12-7

Point Pleasant Beach's football team defeated Shore Regional Saturday, 12-7, to win the school's the first state title in program history.

Junior running back Joe Wegrzyniak ran for 138 yards while junior running back Michael Fraunheim and junior quarterback Jake Fioretti each ran for touchdowns as the Garnet Gulls offense got back on track in the most important game in Point Beach’s history, according to Shore Sports Network.

Point Beach had advanced to their first state final since 1982 and the second one in school history by thumping the Burlington City Blue Devils (6-4) 41-22, according to Shore Sports Network.

In Saturday's game, Point Beach harassed Shore quarterback Matt Muh with constant pressure off the edges, holding him to 73 yards on 5-of-14 passing, according to Shore Sports Network.

Point Beach senior two-way lineman Sean Struncius, whose father, Paul, the team’s quarterbacks coach, was the signal caller on the 1982 team that reached a sectional final, told Shore Sports Network that his school "put in a lot of new stuff this week and we came out with high emotions."

“All week coach came in with two examples of teams that lost in the regular season and came back to win in the playoffs. We knew we had a great group of guys and we could do it," he told Shore Sports Network.
