Think Pink for the Cancer Concern Center Continues with October Dining and Shopping

October 20 fundraiser at The Scone Shoppe and ongoing fundraisers at The Beanery, The Coal House, Idiosyncrazies, and Little Sweet Cakes support local cancer survivors at the Cancer Concern Center

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, five local businesses are organizing October fundraisers for the Cancer Concern Center, a small non-profit based in Point Pleasant Beach.

On Saturday, October 20, The Scone Shoppe (2401 Bridge Avenue in Point Pleasant) will donate 10 percent of its sales to the Cancer Concern Center. From 8 a.m. to noon, specials at The Scone Shoppe will include a Mammo Garden Omelette, My Breast Friends Omelette, scones, crumb cake, cake pops, and Theresa’s Whoopie Pies.

Throughout October, The Beanery (516 Bay Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach) will donate $1 to the Cancer Concern Center for every lunch and take-out order purchased on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Coal House will donate $1 to the Cancer Concern Center for every lunch patron in October and all the proceeds from sales of a promotional T-shirt ($10 each). This Think Pink fundraiser will take place at both locations of The Coal House (710 Arnold Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach and 2100 Route 35, Sea Girt Square, in Wall).

For the entire month of October, Idiosyncrazies will donate all the proceeds from the sale of Fair Trade expandable headbands to the Cancer Concern Center. The headbands are made by women in Guatemala and sold locally at Idiosyncrazies (638 Arnold Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach).

Lastly, at Little Sweet Cakes (529 Bay Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach), ask for the Cancer Concern Center cupcake in October. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Concern Center.

The Cancer Concern Center offers support groups, meditation and yoga classes, nutritional workshops, and new wigs to local residents regardless of their ability to pay. Far from an affluent organization, the Cancer Concern Center has no paid staff and minimal overhead, funneling donations into client programs instead of administration.

Ever since its founding in 1998, the Cancer Concern Center has been an independent non-profit run by breast cancer survivors: Lori Jeffries of Point Pleasant and Jill McDonough of Lavallette. They envisioned a warm and welcoming setting that didn’t feel like a hospital – a convenient place for women and men with cancer to discuss their condition, access resources, receive non-judgmental support, and rejuvenate their spirit.

The Cancer Concern Center is located at 1101 Richmond Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach. For more information, please contact the center (732-701-0250 or lbano@comcast.net), visit cancerconcerncenter.org, or like the Cancer Concern Center on Facebook.

The Cancer Concern Center was the first non-profit to offer support services to adults with cancer in Northern Ocean County. It is a member of the Ocean Medical Center’s Coalition for Cancer Survivorship. All contributions to the Cancer Concern Center are tax-deductible and utilized for local cancer support programs.
